Aase W. Hoyland Falk, age 82, of Decorah, Iowa, died Friday, January 25, 2008 at Barthell Eastern Star Nursing Home in Decorah following a long illness.

Visitation is on Thursday, January 31, 2008 from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. at Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah. Graveside Services will be in the spring at Phelps Cemetery in Decorah.

Aase Wilhelmina (Rees-Kjulsrud) Hoyland Falk was born July 3, 1925 in Notodden, Norway, the daughter of Louisa Rees and Vigo Kjulsrud. She was baptized and confirmed at the Lutheran Church in Notodden, Norway. Aase attended nursing school in Oslo, Norway, and graduated with a Registered Nurse degree in 1950. She did an extra year of laboratory training after nursing school, and then proceeded to work a year at the large hospital in Oslo. She was offered an opportunity to work in America as a Nurse, and so she arrived in Chicago, Illinois and started working at the Norwegian-American hospital. Soon after that she became a United States Citizen. She attended Church at a Norwegian Lutheran Church in Chicago, where she met Olaf A. Hoyland, a carpenter from Norway. They were married in spring of 1954. This union was blessed with three children: Arne, Chris and Karen. After Olaf, Aase was married to Sidney A. Falk for many years. He died December 9, 2000. Aase and Sidney Falk had a winter home at Ocean Reef, Key Largo, Florida, and had a home in Chicago before retiring to be with family in Decorah, Iowa. She had a weekend home put up (that turned into a full time home) on her son's property in Decorah. She has lived there full time for the past 10 years. Aase loved to play golf. She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband Olaf; her second husband Sidney; her sister, Bjorg in 2005; and her aunt, Ingeborg in 2004. She is survived by one son, Arne O. Hoyland and his wife Maria (Lupe) Hoyland of Decorah, Iowa, two daughters, Chris A. Hoyland of Springfield, Missouri and Karen W. Scearse and her husband Eugene of Granton, Wisconsin; and 5 grandchildren: Brady Parker Anderson, Arne Hoyland, Samantha Hoyland, Sonja Hoyland, Grace Hoyland.
