Joseph Mott was born in Franklin county, Maine, October 23, 1811, died at his home in Springwater, Winneshiek county, Iowa, July 2d, 1902, aged 90 years, 8 months and 11 days, and was laid to rest in Friends burying ground, at Springwater, near which he had lived for nearly fifty years, on the 5th inst.

Mr. Mott was married to Anna A. Bean, May 31, 1838, who died December 19, 1866. October 23d, 1871, he was marrid to Phoebe Ann Benedict, who died March 12th, 1889. To him and his first wife were born two sons and four daughters, all of who preceded him in death but one daughter, Abbie A. Benedict, of Guthrie county, Iowa. To him and his second wife one daughter was born, Anise Ellingson, who has lived to care for him in his old age.

He moved from his home in Maine to Springwater, Winneshiek county, in 1855, and has resided in the vicinity of his present home from that time until his death.

Deceased was a member of the Society of Friends, having lived and died in the trimphs of a living faith in Jesus Christ.

The funeral services were conducted at the home of deceased by Rev. Phillip Slack, at 10 A.M., Saturday, July 5th.
