Alice Margretta Young Hoiness - 100 years, two months - of Harmony, MN passed away peacefully at Winneshiek Medical Center in Decorah, IA on Sunday, October 31, 2010 due to complications from pneumonia.

Alice was born September 14, 1910 near Locust, Iowa to John Young, originally of Buswiller, Alsace France, and Emma Lena Koppen Young of Canoe Township, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her elder siblings John Raymond Young, Edna Mildred Young and Ervin Willmore Young.

Alice married Eldon Gerhard Hoiness of Harmony, MN on September 21, 1934 and settled in Harmony, MN, where she and Eldon had three children: David Eldon Hoiness, John Eldon Hoiness and Diane Alice Hoiness. David Eldon Hoiness, alone, survives Alice in death. Alice Hoiness also has two surviving grandchildren, Jeremy Alan Lund of Chicago, Il and Valerie Kirsten Hoiness of St. Paul, MN.

Alice worked as a beautician for three years and as a postal clerk at the Harmony Post Office for 18 years.

All those who know Alice Hoiness will fondly remember her as one who loved life, laughter, family and friends. She forever gave before receiving, loved without judgment and lived life fully until the end.

Alice was cremated per her wishes and a memorial service will be held in her honor in December, 2010 on a date to be determined. If wished, memorials in her name may be designated to Greenfield Lutheran Church, 260 1st Ave. SE, Harmony, MN 55939.
