Marie Henning, age 91, of Ridgeway, WI and formerly of Decorah, IA, died Friday, November 7, 2008 peacefully in her sleep, in the home of her daughter where she had lived the past 14 months.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, November 11, 2008 at Decorah Lutheran Church by Rev. Allen Vik, Rev. Tom Pietz and Rev. Bryan Robertson with burial in Lutheran Cemetery in Decorah.

Visitation is on Monday November 10 from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. at Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah and an hour prior to the services on Tuesday at the church.

Marie (Lien) Henning was born October 6, 1917, in Bagn, Norway, the daughter of Andrew and Elise Lien. Her family immigrated to America in 1920 and settled in Blanchardville, WI. She grew up on a dairy farm with nine siblings and attended Lafayette County schools, through the 8th grade. She worked at Bishop’s Cafeteria in Rockford, IL and Manchester’s in Madison, WI.

She was united in marriage to Chief Petty Officer Lloyd S. Henning USN at Bethel Lutheran on March 10, 1945. They were blessed with four children; Phil, Steve, Linda and Brian. Following their marriage she worked at Reed’s Drug Store in Annapolis, MD while her husband had duty at the naval base. After his retirement in 1947 they moved to Decorah, IA where she lived until 2007. She worked at Decorah Community Schools in food service for 20 years.

Marie was a member of Decorah Lutheran Church, American Legion Auxiliary, and the Sons of Norway. She enjoyed crafts, gardening, and loved to dance and fish.

Marie is survived by her four children; Phil (Karri) Henning of Marshalltown, IA, Steve (Linda) Henning of Decorah, IA, Linda Henning (Kevin Hodgson) of Ridgeway, WI, and Brian Henning of Phoenix, AZ; three grandchildren; Shane (Stephanie) Henning of Charlotte, NC, Sara (Chad) Krogh of Wake Forest, NC, Janele Schlachtenhaufen of Raleigh, NC; three great-grandchildren, Noah and Abigail Krogh and Allyson Henning; two step grandchildren, Richard (Lori) Bollman and David (Kelly) Bollman of Decorah, IA; two step great-grandchildren, Brandon and Shelby Bollman of Decorah, IA; five sisters: Inga Hanson of Argyle, WI, Ruth (Bob) Stillman of New Glarus, WI, Gudrun (Delbert) Kundert of Monroe, WI, Gunvar Haesler of Darlington, WI and Alice Voegeli of Monticello, WI; two brothers, Ardell (Barb) Lien of Blanchardville, WI and Clair (JoAnn) Lien of Stoughton, WI.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Lloyd on September 11, 1973; an infant brother, Ardell Ernest; one brother Ole Lien; one sister, Olga Ommodt; one niece, Joan Lien; one nephew, Andy Lien; four brothers-in-law, Ray Hanson, Bill Haesler, Bernard Ommodt and Howard Voegeli; and one sister–in-law, Elaine Lien.
