Dale Hageman, age 68, of Calmar, Iowa, died on Wednesday, February 10, 2010, at the Palmer Lutheran Health Center in West Union, Iowa.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 13, 2010, at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Calmar, Iowa, with Rev. Donald Hawes presiding. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Friends may call from 3:00-7:00 p.m. on Friday, February 12, 2010, at the Schluter – Balik Funeral Home, French Chapel in Calmar, Iowa, and also on Saturday after 10:00 a.m. at the church.

Dale Charles Hageman was born on October 22, 1941, the son of John and Bertha (Schissel) Hageman in New Hampton, Iowa. Dale attended St. Mary’s Catholic School in Festina and St. Francis DeSales Catholic School in Ossian, graduating in 1960. Dale served in the US Army from Dec. 1960 to Dec. 1963. He returned to Calmar and started working for Wiltgen Construction and then at Reilly Construction, working there for thirty-one years, retiring in 1999. Dale married Cheryl Numedahl on September 2, 1967 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church and to this union, three children were born: Alan, Myra and Marty. Dale enjoyed feeding the squirrels and birds, playing cards, eating salted nut rolls, riding horses and going camping. Above all, he especially loved his children and grandchildren. For the last four years, Dale has resided at the Good Samaritan Home in Postville, Iowa, where he received excellent care. Dale was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church and the Halverson-Giesen American Legion Post #266. He was a former member of Calmar Lions Club and the South Winn Golf Club.

Dale’s survivors include his wife: Cheryl Hageman, Calmar, IA. Three children: Alan (Jody) Hageman, Decorah, IA; Myra (Ricky) Schnuelle, Castalia, IA; and Marty (Amy) Hageman, Decorah, IA. Five grandchildren: Kayla, Kelsey, Kolin & Kayden Schnuelle and Adrian Hageman. Four step-grandchildren: Cory, Shaina, Garrett and Dalton. Two step-great grandchildren: Rhyker & Carter. One brother: Dennis “Red” (Linda) Hageman, Ossian, IA. One sister-in-law: Joanne Hageman, Ossian, IA. Dale’s mother-in-law: Maggie Numedahl, Decorah, IA. One sister-in-law: Karen (Paul) Skrypek, Calmar, IA. Three brothers-in-law: Ron (Marleen) Numedahl, Decorah, IA; Robert (Joyce) Numedahl, Ossian, IA and Randy Numedahl, Calmar, IA, along with several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Dale was preceded in death by his parents: John Hageman on April 27, 1988 and Bertha Hageman on February 15, 1982. One son in infancy in 1989. One brother: Ken Hageman on February 9, 1997. His father-in-law: Raymond Numedahl in May 1973.
