Conrad L. Hageman, age 82, of Calmar, Iowa, died on Sunday, March 19, 2006, at the Winneshiek Medical Center, in Decorah, Iowa, following a short illness.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, March 24, 2006, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Calmar, Iowa with Rev. Donald Hawes. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Friends may call from 3:00-8:00 p.m. on Thursday at the Schluter - Balik Funeral Home, French Chapel in Calmar, Iowa, and after 10:00 a.m. at the church on Friday morning. There will be a rosary at 4:00 and a scripture service at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.

Conrad Linus Hageman was born on October 11, 1923, on the home farm east of Calmar the son of Joseph and Elizabeth (Kriener) Hageman. Conrad attended St. Aloysius Catholic School in Calmar and then farmed at home with his father and two brothers. He married Gertrude Loesch on August 20, 1946, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Spillville. To this union eight children were born and together they farmed east of Calmar. Conrad was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church where he served on the Parish Council and on the Cemetery Board. He enjoyed farming, doing custom corn drying, combining, dancing, playing cards and especially his family.

Conrad's survivors include his wife, Gertrude Hageman, Calmar, IA; Eight children: Mary Lou Hageman (Paul "Dick" Headington) Decorah, IA; Thomas "Tom" (Denise) Hageman, Ossian, IA; Howard (Sandy) Hageman, Elk City, OK; Twins: Linda (Jim) Lukes, Decorah, IA and Lois (Cliff) Holthaus, Decorah, IA; Twins: Sue (Tim) Broderick, Decorah, IA and Sam Hageman (fiancé Lisa Schroeder), Ft. Atkinson, IA and Roy (Patty) Hageman, Decorah, IA. Twenty grandchildren: Carol (Pat) Kirkland, Christopher Phillips, Samantha (Collin) Snider, Serena Hageman, Jennifer (Dan) Murphy, Eric (Rachel) Holthaus, Ryan (fiancé Molly Monroe) Holthaus, Chad and Justin Holthaus, Mallory and Leah Broderick, Jamie, Marcus and Heidi Hageman, Amber Schroeder (fiancé Jason Fleshner) Kirstie and Cory Schroeder, Dakota, Brandi and Benjamin Hageman. Two great grandchildren: Aidan Holthaus and Baby Kirkland (due anytime). One brother: Paul (Colleen) Hageman, Decorah, IA. Four sisters: Catherine Ott, Fort Atkinson, IA; Anna (Edward) Ondrashek, Spillville, IA; Rose (Linus) Tupy, Fort Atkinson, IA and Martha (Ed) Mikota, Ossian, IA. One sister-in-law: Lucy Hageman, Ossian, IA.

Conrad was preceded in death by his parents: Joe on Aug. 30, 1981, and Elizabeth on Nov. 15, 1979; one grandson: Jonathan Lukes on Mar. 22, 1997; one brother: Arnold Hageman on Nov. 27, 1994; two brothers-in-law: Leo Ott on Oct. 11, 1995, and Al Kuennen on Oct. 30, 2005, and one sister-in-law: Norma Kuennen on Mar. 18, 2006.
