Edith M. Grimstad, age 93, of Decorah, IA, died Wednesday, November 17, 2010 at Aase Haugen Home in Decorah.
Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, November 29, 2010 at Decorah Lutheran Church in Decorah with Rev. Bryan Robertson and Rev. Wayne Hagen officiating. Inurnment will be in Phelps Cemetery in Decorah.
Visitation will be from 4:00-6:00 P.M. Sunday, November 28 at Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah and on Monday one hour before the service at the church.
Edith Grimstad was born March 19, 1917 in Kasson, Minnesota to Lee and Bessie (Fiegel) Beard. She was raised on a farm and loved working outdoors with her father.
Edith married Harold Grimstad July 13, 1935 on the family farm where they lived and worked for the following year. They moved to Minneapolis where Harold attended Business School. They raised their three children in Minnesota and moved to Decorah in 1960.
Edith attended Decorah Lutheran Church for fifty years. She was a member of Oneota Golf & Country Club and Luther College Women's Club. Edith volunteered for Winneshiek County Hospital Auxiliary, Eisenhower Hospital and she was president of the P T A. She worked for and served on the Board of Directors of the Security Bank/Decorah Bank and Trust Company.
Her vigorous energy enabled her many interests, walking, golfing, playing bridge, crafts, freezing her strawberry jam, baking rye bread and cookies.
Survivors include three children: Harold M. (Andrea) Grimstad, Juno Beach, FL, Jeannette (Tom) Anderson, Aspen, CO, and Larry (Diane) Grimstad, Decorah; eight grandchildren: Glenn (Karen) Grimstad, Melanie (Dale) Kleiner, Debbie (Gus) Kadota, Jill (Mark) Pisani, Emily Kellogg, Ben (Padrin) Grimstad, Joe (Ann) Grimstad, and Mary (Eylon) Ben Ari; eighteen great-grandchildren; and eight great-great- grandchildren; brother- and sister-in-law, Donald and Mary Ann Grimstad, Minnetonka, MN, a sister-in-law, Beverly Grimstad, Edina, MN; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Edith was preceded in death by her husband Harold on August 7, 1991, her two sisters, Fran Beard and Ethel Quick, and her grandson Kenneth Grimstad.
