Kathryn (Malli) Ferguson, age 88, formerly of Decorah, Iowa, died on Wednesday, August 9, 2006, at the Pine Island Nursing Home in Pine Island, Minnesota, following a lingering illness.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 12, 2006, at the Schluter – Balik Funeral Home, with Rev. Gary Krapfl officiating from St. Benedict’s Catholic Church. Burial will be in St. Benedict’s Catholic Cemetery, Decorah, Iowa.

Friends may call after 9:00 a.m. Saturday morning at the Schluter – Balik Funeral Home.

Kathryn Ivadell (Malli) Ferguson was born on January 18, 1918, the daughter of John and Martha (Sorenson) Malli near Decorah, Iowa. Kathryn attended country school near Frankville, Iowa. She moved with her family to Chicago, IL, where she graduated from high school and junior college. While working for the US Government in Chicago, she met her future husband, Earl Ferguson. They were married on December 18, 1943 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Kathryn continued working in Chicago for the R. J. Donnelly Co. in Chicago as a proofreader. She moved to Decorah in 1980, then to Sarasota, Florida, and returned to Decorah in 1995. In 2001, she moved to Rochester, Minnesota, to be near her sister and then into the Pine Island Nursing Home in 2003.

Kathryn’s survivors include her sister: Gertrude Seegmiller, Rochester, MN. One nephew: Gary (Jane) Seegmiller, Rochester, MN. Two nieces: Martha Carlson, Minneapolis, MN and Linda Seegmiller, Rochester, MN. Five great nieces and nephews: Jesse Seegmiller, Jenna Seegmiller and Kari Seegmiller; Nichole (Nick) McNallen and Joshua Carlson. One great great nephew: Hayden McNallen.

Kathryn was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Earl in 1963; her son, Earl in 1966, one sister: Colletta Malli; one brother in infancy: John Malli; and one brother-in-law: Floyd Seegmiller in 2005.
