Audrey Jean (Whitcanack) Ehler was born on October 22, 1954, at the Keosauqua Hospital to Earl and Leona (Van Der Wall) Whitcanack. She was the second of three daughters born to Earl and Leona. Her younger sister, Gay Lynn is married and lives in Danville, Iowa, with her husband, Kenneth and their two sons, Alden and Seth.

Audrey grew up in her Christian faith as a member of the Keosauqua United Methodist Church. She was baptized and confirmed into her faith as a youth and attended Sunday school classes. In her junior and senior years of high school, she taught these classes as well. In 1996, she was baptized into the Catholic faith by Monsignor Donald Heineman. The following Sunday (Corpus Christi Sunday) her husband, Ken, being the lay minister at the mass, had the privilege of giving Audrey her First Communion as a Catholic. She attempted to dutifully fulfill her responsibility as a member of Our Lady of Seven Dolors parish and rosary society.

She graduated as a registered nurse in 1975. Upon graduation, she worked for a short time in the local hospital in Keosauqua and then worked in Keokuk, spending most of the time in the pediatrics department. In 1990, she moved to Calmar and worked for ten years at the Aase Haugen Nursing Home and in 2000, she began work at the Ossian Senior Hospice as a registered nurse.

On September 28, 1991, Audrey was united in marriage to Kenneth Ehler in a ceremony at the Keosauqua United Methodist Church. Since their marriage they have resided in Calmar. She lived her life as a wife, homemaker and a caring person, who was constantly supportive of her husband in whatever he was involved in.
