Edward H. Dotzler, age 89, of Decorah, Iowa, died Tuesday, August 15, 2006 at Oneota Riverview Care Facility in Decorah.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Friday, August 18, 2006 at Peace Lutheran Church in Ridgeway, Iowa by Rev. Phillip Olson and Rev. Ginny Olson. Burial with Full Military Honors will be in Phelps Cemetery in Decorah.

Friends may call from 4:00-7:00 P.M. on Thursday, August 17, 2006 at Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah, where there will be a V.F.W. Memorial Service held at 6:30 P.M. and after 9:00 A.M. Friday at the church.

Edward Henry Dotzler was born on October 20, 1916 at home in Howard County, Iowa, the son of Edward and Mae (Schafer) Dotzler. Edward (Eddie) enlisted in the U.S. Army on March 11, 1941. He served as a private and was honorably discharged on November 27, 1943.

He was united in marriage with Helen M. Hovey on November 6, 1946 at the First Lutheran Church parsonage in Cresco, Iowa. To this union 18 children were born; Edward, Donna, Marilyn, Charlotte, Jerry, Wayne, Donald, Margaret, Rodney, Roger, Larry, Gary, Dennis, Barb, Sharon, Karen, Michelle and Michael.

Eddie worked for Winneshiek County and Roverud Construction, operating heavy equipment until his retirement in 1978. In retirement Eddie enjoyed fishing, working on cars, and going for rides. He also loved to play Euchre. But best of all he enjoyed having his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren spend time with him. He was a most loving guy.

Eddie lived most of his life in Howard and Winneshiek counties. He was a member of the Peace Lutheran Church in Ridgeway and the American Legion. He made his home in Ridgeway until moving to the Oneota Riverview Care Facility in Decorah in January of 2003.

Edward died Tuesday, August 15, 2006 at Oneota Riverview Care Facility at the age of 89 years.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Helen; 17 children, Edward A. (Sandra) Dotzler of Belvidere, IL, Donna (Rod) Vick of Cedar Rapids, IA, Marilyn (Curt) Peterson of Decorah, IA, Charlotte (Ken) Buckingham of Waynesville, MO, Jerry (Jean) Dotzler of Mason City, IA, Wayne Dotzler of Cedar Rapids, IA, Margaret Halse (Nick Schissel) of Ossian, IA, Rodney (Jane) Dotzler of Ridgeway, IA, Roger Dotzler of Roscoe, IL, Larry (Lola) Dotzler of Cedar Rapids, IA, Gary (Dianne) Dotzler of Roscoe, IL, Dennis (Keri) Dotzler of Decorah, IA, Barb (Bob) Bigler of Ridgeway, IA, Sharon (Kevin) Weselmann of Decorah, IA, Karen Dotzler of Cresco, IA, Michelle (Lee) Panoch of Cresco, IA, Mike (Naycia) Dotzler of Cresco, IA; many grandchildren and great children; three sisters, Hazel Dawes of Sioux Falls, SD, Charlotte Lepa of Cresco, IA, and Edith Lepa of Cresco, IA; and three brothers, Lyle of Annawan, IL, Eugene of Cresco, IA, and an adopted brother, Dennis, of Cedar Rapids, IA.

Eddie was preceded in death by his parents, one son Donald on October 6, 1992; three sisters, Frances Long, Shirley Foley, and Ann Hanni; and by seven brothers, twins William and Wayne, Dennis, James, John, Steve, and Hank.
