Kurt loved to live his life to the fullest. Not one to sit still, he enjoyed being on the go. He loved the outdoors the most and spent much time golfing, playing tennis, biking, fishing, hunting, and chopping wood. He was a curious individual who was thoughtful, gentle, friendly and outgoing. He taught his daughters to always try things at least once, to ask questions and inquire about the unknown, a strong work ethic and to laugh often.
Kurtis Alex Dick was born on February 3, 1941, just minutes before midnight and before his twin sister Karen was born on February 4th. Kurt grew up on a farm outside of Lisbon, North Dakota with his parents and two sisters.
After high school, Kurt served in the United States Army and then attended the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks where he graduated with a degree in business.
He was united in marriage with Gayle K. Odegard on April 24, 1964.
Kurt worked his entire professional career in management for Interstate Power Company, serving North East Iowa in the communities of Dubuque, West Union, Elkader and Decorah.
Kurt was an active member of the Decorah Rotary, the Decorah Chamber of Commerce and Oneota Golf and Country Club. Kurt also volunteered, for several years, for the United Way.
Kurt is survived by his wife of 47 years, Gayle, of Riverside, IA; daughter Stefanie (Rod) Sersland of Ainsworth, IA; grandson Alex Sersland of Mankato, MN; daughter Leslie (John) Frank and grandson Zach Frank of Minnetonka, MN; and two sisters: Colleen (Jerry) Sullivan of Bella Vista, AR and Karen (Cliff) Parsley of Apache Junction, AZ.
He left this world peacefully and surrounded by family. He was preceded in death by his parents.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Atrium Village in Hills, Iowa; Iowa City Hospice; or the National Stroke Association.
