Don A. Davis, age 82, of Decorah, Iowa, died Sunday, February 25, 2007 at Winneshiek Medical Center in Decorah.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Thursday, March 1, 2007 at First United Methodist Church in Decorah by Rev. Carol A. Kress. Burial will be in Phelps Cemetery in Decorah.

Friends may call from 4:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M. Wednesday, February 28, 2007 at Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah where there will be a Masonic service at 6:30 P.M. Friends may also call after 12:00 P.M. Thursday at the Church.

Don Albert Davis was born July 4, 1924 in Salina, KS, the son of Orrin L. and Ellen (Howell) Davis. He graduated from Salina High School with the class of 1942 and later received his BS degree in Agricultural Education from Kansas State University in 1949 and his MS degree in Agricultural Education from South Dakota State University in 1960.

Don served in the Army from August 1943 to November 1945 with the 77th Infantry Division. He received a purple heart and a bronze star medal.

Don was united in marriage with Betty Mason Knorr on August 21, 1954 in Wichita, KS, by his uncle, the Rev. Dr. L.C. Campbell. To this union two children were born: Richard and Jean.

He taught Agricultural Education in Marion, KS, Beresford, SD, Volga, SD, Rock Rapids, IA, Rockwell City, IA, Webster City, IA, and Titonka, IA. In January 1969 they moved to a farm in rural Calmar, IA, and Don began teaching Agricultural Education and Business to veterans and farmers at Area I Technical College in Calmar. He retired from Area I in 1986. Then Don farmed and also had hogs. Don and Betty moved into Decorah in June 2005.

Don was a very active member of the First United Methodist Church in Decorah where he served many years as head usher on the administration board, the trustees and the adult fellowship group. Don was a member of the Great Lights #181 A.F. & A.M., Royal Arch Masons Channel 35, Knights Templar No. 12 and the 32nd Degree K.C.C.H. Scottish Right Consistory in Cedar Rapids. In his spare time Don enjoyed reading.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers: Arthur and James, and one sister: Nina Kreyer.

Don is survived by his wife, Betty of Decorah; his son, Richard (Robin) Davis of Decorah; and his daughter, Jean Davis of Des Moines, IA.
