James “Jim” Cutsforth, age 92, of Calmar, IA, died on Sunday March 18, 2012, at Wellington Place Nursing Home in Decorah, IA.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, March 22, 2012, at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, 304 South Maryville Street, Calmar, IA, with Rev. Donald Hawes presiding. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Friends may call from 3:00-7:00 p.m., on Wednesday, March 21, 2012, at the Schluter – Balik Funeral Home, French Chapel, 202 South Washington Street in Calmar, IA, and also after 10:00 a.m., at the church on Thursday morning. There will be a rosary at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
James “Jim” Henry Cutsforth was born on September 15, 1919, the son of William and Elizabeth (McGrane) Cutsforth in Lawler, IA. Jim attended country school near Lawler. He served in World War II in the US Army from Oct. 1, 1941 to Oct. 25, 1945. Jim married Margaret “Marge” Hruska on August 29, 1945, at Riley Ridge Catholic Church north of Lawler. They lived in Lawler for a short time, before moving to Calmar in 1946. Jim drove truck for Bucheit Produce and later had his owned Cutsforth Trucking. Jim also worked for Wiltgen Construction and drove school bus for the South Winneshiek School District from 1992 – 2006. The last three years Jim has lived at Wellington Place Nursing Home. He enjoyed playing cards, going gambling, to the Train Station for coffee, watching the Minnesota Viking and the Twins. Above all, Jim dearly loved family and friends.
Jim’s survivors include his four children: Jim (Phyllis) Cutsforth, Ottumwa, IA; Terry (Bonnie Brandenburg) Fredericksburg, IA; Sheila (Dennis) Koepp, Decorah, IA and Sandy (Lyle) Lechtenberg, Houston, MN. Eight grandchildren: Kathy Cutsforth, Brian (Keitha) Cutsforth, Scott (Amber) Cutsforth, Shelley (Harry) Wahl, Heather (Scott) Engelhardt, Patrick (Shannon) Cutsforth, Todd (Bettie) Lechtenberg and Sean Cutsforth. Thirteen great grandchildren: Emily, Thomas & Alison Cutsforth; Britney & Cassandra Cutsforth; Elizabeth, Katie & Josie Engelhardt; Logan & Bryce Whitehill, Nicholas Lechtenberg, and Kaden & Gemma Wahl. Two brothers: LaVern (Charlene) Cutsforth, Waterloo, IA and Cletus Cutsforth, Cottage Grove, MN. One sister: Ida Mae Yearling, Waterloo, IA. Three sisters-in-law: Bernice Cutsforth, Fredericksburg, IA; Esther Cutsforth, Waterloo, IA; and Naomi Hruska, Decorah, IA.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents: William and Elizabeth (McGrane) Cutsforth. His wife: Marge (Hruska) Cutsforth on January 10, 2007. Six brothers: Robert Cutsforth, William (Bernie) Cutsforth, Virgil (Norma) Cutsforth, Glen (Gerri) Cutsforth, Herb (Virginia) Cutsforth, and Merlin Cutsforth. Two sisters: Mabel (Ervin) Randall and Arlene (Robert) Kolthoff. Four brothers-in-law: Lawrence Hruska, Rob (Shirley) Hruska, William Hruska, and Don Yearling. Sister-in-law: Darlys Cutsforth.
