Coletta Busta, age 89, of Fort Atkinson, Iowa, died on Wednesday, January 28, 2009, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, MN, following a short illness.

A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 31, 2009, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Fort Atkinson, Iowa, with Rev. David Beckman officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Friends may call from 3:00-7:00 p.m. on Friday and on Saturday morning until 10:00 a.m. at the Schluter – Balik Funeral Home, Chekal Chapel in Fort Atkinson, Iowa.

There will be a rosary at 4:00 p.m. and a scripture service at 5:00 p.m. on Friday afternoon.

Coletta Anna (Schmitt) Busta was born on March 16, 1919, the daughter of Peter T. and Mary (Blong) Schmitt on the family farm near St. Lucas, Iowa. Coletta attended St. Luke’s Catholic School in St. Lucas and helped farm on the family farm. Coletta married Jacob Busta on February 9, 1943 at St. Luke’s Catholic Church in St. Lucas, Iowa. They farmed near Fort Atkinson, until Jacob’s massive stroke in 1965. Coletta continued to farm, looking after Jacob and the rest of the family, until 1977 when they moved into Fort Atkinson. Jacob passed away in 1986. Coletta enjoyed playing cards, embroidering, crocheting, baking, especially kolaches and pies, gardening and taking care of her plants. She also enjoyed traveling, going for drives in the country to look at crops, and visiting her family and friends. She was especially proud to earn her G.E.D. late in life. Coletta was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church, the Foresters and the Ladies Guild.

Coletta’s survivors include her eight children: Marjorie (Larry) McDonough, Dubuque, IA, Dorothy (Neil) Bodensteiner, Hawkeye, IA, Ruth (Craig Heitke) Busta, Edina, MN, Betty (Manjit) Bajwa, Eden Prairie, MN, Elaine (Wayne) Mohlin, South Haven, MN, Richard Busta, Ft. Atkinson, IA, Diane (Chris Linde) Busta, Asheville, NC, and Marilyn (Richard) Meyer, Chatfield, MN; twelve grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters, Cordula Doucet, Caledonia, MN and Rose (Merlin) Rilling, Ft. Atkinson, IA; three sisters-in-law: Rita Schmitt, Decorah, IA, Therese Schmitt, Ft. Atkinson, IA, and Madonna Schmitt, Ft. Atkinson, IA; one brother-in-law, Wilfred Dietzenbach, St. Lucas, IA, along with many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Coletta was preceded in death by her parents, Peter T. and Mary Schmitt; her husband, Jacob Busta on April 6, 1986; one great grandson, Jacob Scherf in 2008; two sisters: Theola Schaefer and Leona Dietzenbach; four brothers: John E. Schmitt, Roman Schmitt, Alfred Schmitt and Robert Schmitt, in infancy; two brothers-in-law: James B. Schaefer and D. Joseph Doucet.
