Robert W. Broghammer, age 78, of Decorah, IA, died Thursday, August 25, 2011 at his daughter’s home in Iowa City, IA. Robert and Vivian are now reunited in heaven.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, August 30, at St. Benedict Catholic Church in Decorah with Rev. Phillip Gibbs officiating. Burial will be in St. Benedict Catholic Cemetery in Decorah.
Visitation will be from 3:00-6:00 P.M. on Sunday August 28 at Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah, with a Rosary recited at 5:45 P.M. Visitation will also be on Tuesday one hour before the service at the church.
Robert William Broghammer was born on November 6, 1932 on the family farm in Hesper Township, Winneshiek County, Iowa, the son of William J. and Catherine Anne (Lydon) Broghammer. He attended rural school near Frankville and then Loras Academy in Dubuque, graduating in 1950. He started working at Fred Carlson Company in Decorah and worked there for well over 50 years, retiring in 2004. In April of 2006, Bob started working at Walmart in Decorah.
Bob was united in marriage to Vivian D. Kimber on May 12, 1962 at St. Benedict Catholic Church in Decorah, Iowa. This union was blessed with three children: Annette, Robert and Jolene.
He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, reading and doing crossword puzzles, watching football and Wheel of Fortune, and baking chocolate chip cookies to share with his family and friends. He was a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife Vivian on December 29, 2001, his parents, his brother John Broghammer and a baby sister Ruth Broghammer.
Bob is survived by his three children: Annette Griffin of Iowa City, Bob (Jenny) Broghammer of Iowa City and Jolene Broghammer (Mike Whitehead) of Grimes, IA; five grandchildren: Jimmie Griffin, Logan Broghammer, Katie Broghammer, Emily Broghammer and Lydia Whitehead; and by his faithful companion Scout, an English Springer Spaniel.
