Hubert Anthony Bolson was born December 1, 1920, son of Stephen B. and Esther Rebecca (Lovestuen) Bolson in Glenwood Township on the farm of his grandfather. At the age of two he moved with the family to Decorah, IA where he lived the majority of his life as a partner in a family owned painting business. He grew up speaking Norwegian and did not begin speaking English until he entered elementary school.

He graduated from Decorah High School in 1939 and continued working with his father until inducted into the army in July of 1942. He served in Europe during the war and received two Bronze Stars for his service to the country. After being discharged in December of 1945 he returned to Decorah and continued in the painting business until his retirement. Hubert was a member of First Lutheran Church, the V.F.W. and American Legion and was Parade Marshall for the Memorial Day Parade in Decorah.

Hubie married Angela M. Stortz on March 26, 1944 in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. This union was blessed with three children: Margeen, Steven and Robert. He married Avis C. (Smith) Nelson of Decorah on November 9, 1963.

Hubie and Avis went camping and fishing many weekends and loved to mushroom hunt, which was aided by their living in the old brick mansion by Dunning Spring, above the Upper Iowa River. Together they frequented every garage sale and auction in the area for decades and accumulated a huge collection of antiques back when they were still bargains. They enjoyed studying the birds and wildlife from their kitchen window as well as traveling. He was proud of his Norwegian heritage, enjoyed trips to Norway and hosting Norwegian relatives in their home.

Hubie entered the Aase Haugen Home on September 27, 2008.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his two wives, Angela on March 27, 2003 and Avis on October 6, 2008; three brothers, Raymond Bolson on March 16, 2004, and infants, Arnold on January 18, 1922 and Milford on July 16, 1923.
