Vera M. Albertson, age 87, of Decorah, Iowa, died Wednesday, May 2, 2007 at the Aase Haugen Home in Decorah following a long illness.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday, May 7, 2007 at Burr Oak United Methodist Church in Burr Oak, IA by Rev. Michael Blevins. Burial will be in the Burr Oak Cemetery.

Friends may call from 4:00-6:00 P.M. Sunday, May 6, 2007 at Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah and after 1 P.M. Monday at the church.

Vera Mae (Wirtz) Albertson was born June 17, 1919 in Logan Township, Clay County, IA, the daughter of Sherman E. and Julia (Reardon) Wirtz. Her mother passed away before Vera was two years old and she grew up in the home of an aunt and uncle, Bill and May Reardon. Vera and her twin brother, Virgil, were the youngest in the family of ten.

Vera graduated from Gillet Grove High School with the class of 1936 and received her teacher’s certificate from Buena Vista College, Storm Lake, IA. She taught school in northwest Iowa for 18 years, first in country schools, then Junior High in Dickens, IA for several years.

She was united in marriage with Orville Miller on May 22, 1951 in Minnesota. To this union one daughter was born: Merrylin. In 1964 the family moved to the Decorah area and Vera worked at the North Winneshiek School as a custodian until her retirement.

Orville Miller passed away in 1974 and on June 30, 1977 Vera and Lawrence Albertson were married at Burr Oak United Methodist Church in Burr Oak.

Vera was a member of the United Methodist Women and the United Methodist Bazaar Boosters. She did custodial work at the church for many years. Vera was an active volunteer and a life-time member with the Laura Ingalls Wilder Museum in Burr Oak. Vera and Lawrence enjoyed rosemaling and crafting and were members of the Northeast Iowa Rosemaling Association. She enjoyed gardening as well.

She became a resident of the Aase Haugen Home on April 18, 2006. She died there Wednesday, May 2, 2007 following a long illness at the age of 87 years.

She is survived by her husband, Lawrence of rural Decorah; one granddaughter, McKenzie Jensen of Kaysville, UT; several nieces and nephews; and one sister-in-law, Alice Wilbur of Decorah.

Vera was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Orville Miller; her daughter, Merrylin Miller on September 12, 2003; and 9 brothers and sisters: Edna, Ruth, Raymond, Byron, Wayne, twins Marie and Melvin, Dorothy, and her twin brother, Virgil.
