Bonnie Jean Huebner, age 74, of Decorah, Iowa, died Monday, August 8, 2005 at her home following a short illness.

Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, August 12, 2005 at First Lutheran Church by Rev. Steven M. Jacobsen. Friends may call from 10:00-11:00 A.M. Friday at the church.

Additional Memorial and burial services will be held 10:00 A.M. Thursday, August 18, 2005 at Greenfield Hill Congregational Church and Memorial Gardens in Fairfield CT. by Rev. David J. Rowe.

Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah, Iowa is in charge of the arrangements.

Bonnie Jean Huebner was born July 3, 1931 in Houston, Minnesota, the daughter of Ben and Emma (Torgerson) Westby. She was confirmed in the Lutheran Stone Church in Houston, Minnesota in 1946. Bonnie graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1953 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education, with distinction. She taught first and second grades in Rochester, Minnesota and San Marino, California.

She was united in marriage with Dan F. Huebner on May 14, 1955 by Rev. M.A. Braaten at the Lutheran Stone Church in Houston, MN. She and Dan celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2005.

Bonnie was a member of PEO; the Monday Book Club; the Oneota Golf and Country Club; the Luren Singer’s Auxiliary; and AAUW in Decorah. She was an elder in the Presbyterian Church. Bonnie was a deaconess and President of the Woman’s Guild at the Greenfield Hill Congregational Church in Fairfield, CT. She and Dan were members of the Patterson Country Club and the Fairfield Beach Club. She loved to read, play bridge and travel throughout the world.

Bonnie was very proud of her 100% Norwegian heritage. She and Dan visited Norway four times and have traced her family there back to the late 1500’s. She and Dan have been active trustees of Vesterheim Norwegian American Museum for a decade. The Westby-Torgerson Education Center is named in honor of her parents, Ben and Emma Torgerson Westby. Bonnie and Dan are currently serving as Honorary Trustees of Vesterheim.

Bonnie leaves her husband Dan of Decorah; their daughter, Cindi Alan and her husband, Larry of Simsbury, CT.; a grandson, Eric Huebner Alan, serving in the US Coast Guard in Sault Ste Marie, MI.; a granddaughter, Dana Westby Alan, a junior at the University of Connecticut and a sister, Dory Holmgren of Minneapolis, MN.

Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents, Ben and Emma; two sisters, Lillian Carroll and Evelyn Northrup.; and a brother, Morris.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be given to the Bonnie & Dan Huebner Westby-Torgerson Education Center Endowment at the Vesterheim Museum, 502 W. Water Street, Decorah, Iowa 52101.
