Fay R. Ward, age 87, of Frankville, Iowa, died Sunday, December 19, 2004 at the Aase Haugen Home in Decorah, Iowa.
Funeral Service is on Wednesday, December 22, 2004 at 11:00 A.M. at Decorah Lutheran Church in Decorah, Iowa by Rev. James Glesne, Rev. Bryan Robertson and Rev. Ole Winter. Burial will be at 2:30 P.M. Wednesday, December 22, 2004 at Boscobel Cemetery, Boscobel, Wisconsin.
Visitation is on Tuesday, December 21, 2004 from 4:00-8:00 P.M. at Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah, Iowa, with a Masonic Memorial Service to be held at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. Friends may also call from 10:00-11:00 A.M. Wednesday at the church.
Fay Richard Ward was born November 17, 1917 on the family farm in Wauzeka, Crawford County, Wisconsin, the son of Levi Riley and Flora Teleta (Young) Ward. He was baptized on August 26, 1928 at Marietta Township in Crawford County, Wisconsin. Fay graduated from Wauzeka High School with the Class of 1937 and played Basketball and Track.
He was united in marriage to Sadie Yvonne Copas on February 12, 1941 in Wauzeka, Wisconsin. To this union, four children were born: Kevin, Karen, Shane and Robin.
Fay and S. Yvonne farmed near Stueben, Wisconsin and he was a cheese maker for many years in Wisconsin, Illinois and Iowa. He attained the title of Iowa Grand Champion Cheese maker in 1975. S. Yvonne preceded him in death in June 1976.
Fay remarried on October 14, 1978 to Sadie Marlys Borseth Lensch.
Fay was a member of Decorah Lutheran Church; Decorah Masonic Temple and was a mason for fifty-two years; an eight year member of the Fraternal Order of the Elks and a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge for over twelve years. He was honored as the Grand Marshall in the Frankville Fire Department’s Fourth of July Parade and he enjoyed playing Santa Claus for the Frankville Community for many years.
He is survived by his wife, Sadie of Decorah; his children, Kevin (Donna) Ward of San Antonio, TX, Karen (Arlaan) Carter of San Diego, CA, Shane (Jennifer) Ward of Eagle, WI, and two step sons, David (Roselyn) Lensch of Decorah, John (Muriel) Lensch of Decorah; five grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; five step grandchildren and eight step great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, S. Yvonne in June 1976; a son Robin Ward in December 1956 and a brother, Emil Ward in March 2002.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations may be directed to the Decorah Masonic Lodge, 106½ West Water Street, Decorah, Iowa 52101
