Geneva D. Ruen May, age 84, of Waukon, Iowa and formerly of Decorah, Iowa, died Saturday, July 17, 2004 at Veteran’s Memorial Hospital in Waukon following a brief illness.

Funeral Service is on Tuesday, July 20, 2004 at 10:30 A.M. at First Lutheran Church in Decorah by Rev. Steven M. Jacobsen and Rev. Lynn G. Groe with burial in Lutheran Cemetery, Decorah. Organist will be Rev. Marion Pruitt Miller and Soloist will be Rev. Lynn G. Groe, who will sing "In the Garden." Congregation songs will be "Rock of Ages" and "Beautiful Savior"

Casket bearers will be Rick Ruen, Mark Ruen, Jay Schroeder, Randall Schroeder, Scott Ruen, Michael Ruen, Dale Ruen, James Ruen and Timothy Ruen.

Visitation is on Monday, July 19, 2004 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Fjelstul Funeral Home and on Tuesday after 9:30 am at the church.

Geneva Darlene Ruen May was born August 4, 1919, in Frankville, Iowa, the daughter of George F. and Elsie (Duff) Allen.

Geneva married Orville H. Ruen on July 31, 1936 at Glenwood Lutheran Church in rural Decorah. To this union, six children were born: Daryl, Olga, Leslie, Lee, Howard, and George. Orville died in auto accident on September 22, 1957. She later married Carl O. May in 1982 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. He preceded her in death in 1994.

Geneva and Orville lived for a time in Vancouver, Washington while he served in the Coast Guard during World War II, returning to Decorah following the war. After Orville’s untimely death, Geneva worked hard at raising her family on her own. After her marriage to Carl, the couple made their home in Waukon. Geneva became a resident of the Good Samaritan Center in Waukon in the fall of 1997.

Geneva was a member of First Lutheran Church in Decorah. She dearly loved to spend time with her many grandchildren and great grandchildren at family gatherings. Geneva liked music. She played the piano at the nursing home, enjoyed strumming the guitar and she liked to sing and yodel. Geneva also enjoyed embroidery.

Geneva died Saturday, July 17, 2004 at Veteran’s Memorial Hospital in Waukon, following a brief illness at the age of 84.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, a son, Daryl on March 9, 2002; two grandsons, Terry Ruen and Trevor Moen; three sisters, Jerrine Hughes, Bernice Schweinefuss, Blanche Hougen; two brothers, Leonard “Buck” Allen and Leslie “Bud” Allen

Gevena is survived by five children, Olga (Robert) Schroeder of Beulah, N.D., Leslie (Nancy) Ruen of Kaukauna, WI., Lee (Ruth) Ruen of East Dubuque, IL., Howard (Diane) Ruen of Decorah, IA., George (Susan) Ruen of Decorah, IA.; twenty grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, June Monroe of Waukon, IA. and Mabel Vine of Oelwein, IA.
