Mark W. Nelson, age 43 of Decorah, IA, died on Tuesday, July 19, 2005 at Winneshiek Medical Center in Decorah following a long illness.
Funeral Service is at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 22, 2005 at First Lutheran Church in Decorah, by Rev. Marion Pruitt Miller, with burial in Lutheran Cemetery, Decorah.
Visitation is on Thursday, July 21, 2005 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah and on Friday after 10:00 a.m. at the Church.
Mark William Nelson was born June 3, 1962 in Minneapolis, MN. In July of 1963, he was adopted by Dr. Frank F. and Betty Jean K. (Bender) Nelson. He was baptized on May 19, 1963; his affirmation was on April 1, 1974, and he was confirmed on May 7, 1978.
Mark graduated from Decorah High School with the Class of 1981. He then went to the Brown Institute in Minneapolis for radio broadcasting and attended Luther College. He worked in Mankato, MN, York, PA, and LaCrosse, WI. Mark moved back to Decorah in 2000. He worked at Spectrum Industries and then in September 2003, he became a resident of Oneota Riverview Care Facility.
In high school, Mark was active in band and choir. He also liked television, reading, and being around people. He was a member of First Lutheran Church.
Mark died on Tuesday, July 19, 2005 at Winneshiek Medical Center in Decorah at the age of 43 years following a long illness.
He was preceded in death by both his maternal and paternal grandparents; and three uncles.
Mark is survived by his parents, Dr. Frank and Betty Jean Nelson of Decorah, IA; one brother, Philip (Jerilyn) Nelson of Waterloo, IA; and three aunts, Barbara Schmidtbauer of Tomahawk, WI, Barbara Bottger of Milwaukee, WI, and Phyllis Latimer of Ashville, NC.
Memorials may be directed to the Oneota Riverview Care Facility in Decorah.
