Funeral Services Held For E. R. Birdsell

Funeral services were held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Frankville Presbyterian Church for Eugene R. Birdsell, 75, of Frankville who passed away Saturday at his home. Rev. Thomas Nelson, pastor of the Rossville and Frankville churches, presided. Burial was in the Frankville cemetery. Mr. Birdsell was a livelong (sic) resident of the Frankville community.

Eugene R. Birdsell, son of Israel and Flora Birdsell, was born November 25, 1876 in Frankville township, Winneshiek county, and died June 14, 1952 at his home in Frankville at the age of 75 years, six months and 19 days.

He had been a lifelong resident of Frankville township, having engaged in agriculture and later operating a portable feed mill.

On September 29, 1898 he was united in marriage to Margaret L. Brandt, also of Frankville township at the Methodist church in Decorah. To this union 2 children were born, Leo L. and Ralph R., both of Frankville.

He united with the Frankville Presbyterian church March 5, 1916 and became a ruling elder on March 29, 1922. He was at one time a trustee on the township board, and treasurer of the local school board of his district. He was active in community work in his earlier years.

He received his education from the rural schools in the county.

He leaves to mourn besides his wife and 2 sons, one brother, James of Waterloo, and one grandson, Donald Birdsell of St. Paul, Minnesota, besides numerous relatives and friends.
