Leslie Birdsell, 28, Passes On Tuesday; Funeral Is Thursday

Was About To Enter Ball Game When Stricken

Leslie Birdsell, a former resident of Postville, passed away early Tuesday morning in the Decorah hospital after a short illness.

He was taken suddenly ill Sunday afternoon at the Winneshiek county fair in Decorah while he was preparing to play baseball with Frankville against Decorah. Friends rushed him to the hospital where his condition became worse and he passed away at 2 a.m. on Tuesday.

Mr. Birdsell was born in Frankville township on February 7, 1911, a son of Roy and May Todd Birdsell. When he was about 2 years old his parents passed away and he was reared by his grandmother, Mrs. Rachael Birdsell at Frankville.

He lived in Postville from 1936 to July 1939. During those four years he was the star mail route carrier. After leaving here he worked in West Union in a hardware store until his passing.

He is survived by his brother, Leon, of Monona, and 3 sisters, Mrs. Henry Amundson and Mrs. Lee Case of Estherville and Mrs. Inez Smithling of Decorah, his grandmother at Frankville and other relatives.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. at Grandma Birdsell's home in Frankville and at 2 p.m. at the Frankville Community church. Interment will be in the Centennial Cemetery. The remains will be at the Schultz funeral home in Monona until Thursday forenoon where friends may call.
