Ginger was born March 2, 1922 in Elkhart, Iowa to Emory F. and Clara A. (Fields) Adams. She graduated from the Colfax High School in 1939, then graduated from Normal Training in Ames. On January 6, 1947 she married Howard L. McCabe in Missouri. For thirty years they operated McCabe’s Tavern in Stark, Minnesota before retiring to Pine City in 1982. They moved to Holland, Iowa in 1994 where she has resided since. Howard passed away December 23, 2007. She enjoyed her family, playing the organ, singing, cooking, reading, and flowers.
Ginger passed away Tuesday, September 15, 2009 at her home surrounded by her family at the age of 87.
Ginger is survived by seven children Tootsie (Roy) Hesse of Stacy, Minn, Dixie Oberg of Fincastle, Virginia, Pauline Mittelstaedt of Mora, Minn., Lynette McCabe of Zumbrota, Minn., Gene (Amy) McCabe of Blaine, Wash., Larry Vessel of Phoenix, Arizona; and Sandy Cortez of Bakersfield, California; 28 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Howard; her parents; four brothers Gerald, Mel, Lee, and Ivan; and three sisters Doris, Opal, and Lola.
Funeral Mass will be 11 AM Friday, September 18, 2009 at the Assumption Catholic Church in Canton, Minnesota with Father Donald P. Schmitz officiating. Burial will be in the St. Agnes Cemetery at Plymouth Rock in rural Cresco, Iowa. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church.
