Carrie M. Lee, age 105, of Decorah, Iowa, died Wednesday, November 2, 2005 at Barthell Eastern Star Home in Decorah.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, November 7, 2005 at the Congregational United Church of Christ in Decorah by the Rev. Matthew H. Perkins, with burial in Phelps Cemetery.

Friends may call from 4:00-7:00 P.M. on Sunday, November 6, 2005 at Fjelstul Funeral Home and an hour prior to the services on Monday at the church.

Carrie Marie McIntosh Lee was born September 24, 1900 at home in Madison Township, Winneshiek County, IA, the daughter of Marion and Mae (Letz) McIntosh. She graduated from Decorah High School with the Class of 1918 and graduated from the University of Iowa with the Class of 1922. She then taught school for one year in Rock Rapids, IA.

She was united in marriage with J. Norman Lee on June 25, 1923 at the Congregational United Church of Christ in Decorah. To this union, one daughter was born: Virginia.

Carrie taught in the Decorah School district from the fall of 1942 until the spring of 1962. She also served as a substitute teacher for the district from 1928-1942. She was an active member of the United Congregational Church of Christ. Carrie was very involved in her community. She was a member of the Winneshiek County Tuberculosis and Health Association and participated in the hiring of the first Public Health Nurse for the county in 1939. She was a longtime member of the Board of Directors of the Decorah State Bank. She was also a member of the Board of Directors of the Barthell Order of the Eastern Star Home from 1966-1973, had served as an ex-officio member of the board since 1973 and was past treasurer of the Eastern Star. Carrie cared about the educational opportunities in her hometown and recently made a monetary donation to the Decorah Community School District to be used for the remodeling of the old middle school.

Her other memberships included PEO and the American Legion Auxiliary. Carrie loved to travel and took a number of cruises and other trips over the years. She enjoyed reading and belonged to several bridge clubs.

Carrie became a resident of the Barthell Eastern Star Home on August 26, 1996.

Survivors include her daughter, Virginia Lee Pearson of Prescott, AZ.; a granddaughter, Deborah Ann Pearson Smith of Prescott, AZ; five great-grandchildren, Adam Lee Smith, Jeremy Lee Smith, Kimber Lee Marquez, Samantha Jean Pearson and J. Michael Pearson; and three great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband on April 20, 1966 and a grandson, Michael Lee Pearson December 12, 1998.
