Funeral services for Elmer Blumhagen were held Monday, December 30, 1996 at 1:30 p.m. in the Chapel at the Good Samaritan Center in Postville. The Rev. Wayne Hagen officiated. Special music was provided by Ronald Meyer and Joann Martins, organist. The Schutte Funeral Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the Postville Cemetery.
Elmer L. Blumhagen, the son of Fred and Bertha (Krogmann) Blumhagen was born February 3, 1908 in Bloomfield Township, Winneshiek County, near Castalia, Iowa. He died Thursday, December 26, 1996 in the Good Samaritan Center, Postville. He was 88.
He attended the Oak Hill School and the Postville High School. Elmer operated the farm where he was born until 1960, when he moved to Postville. He was employed by the city of Postville for about ten years. He became a resident of the Good Samaritan Center on December 30, 1987.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Bertha Blumhagen.
Surviving are cousins and many friends.
Elmer became a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in 1924. He was a charter member of the Bloomfield Township Historical Society.
Casket bearers were Kasey Meyer, Robert Fosdal, Loren Koenig, Vernon Kamp, Brekka Fosdal and Dustin Berns.
