W. Richard "Dick" Bosanko, age 78 of Decorah, IA, died on Sunday, December 4, 2005 at Winneshiek Medical Center in Decorah of complications from pneumonia.

Funeral Service is at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, December 7, 2005 at Congregational United Church of Christ in Decorah, IA by Rev. Matthew H. Perkins. Additional services will be at 1:00 P.M. on Thursday, December 8, 2005 at Ipswich United Church of Christ in Ipswich, SD by Rev. David Biebighauser. Burial will be in Ipswich Cemetery, with full military honors.

Visitation is from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Tuesday, December 6, 2005 at Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah with a V.F.W. Memorial Service at 6:30 P.M., and on Wednesday after 10 A.M. at the Church.

William Richard Bosanko was born September 14, 1927 in Aberdeen, South Dakota, the son of William C. and Elsie R. (Chase) Bosanko. He was raised on the family farm near Ipswich, South Dakota, and attended rural schools in Union Township and Ipswich High School. In recognition of his military service, Dick was awarded a High School Diploma by Ipswich High School in 2001.

Dick entered the United States Navy on June 14, 1945 and was a Seaman First Class and was honorably discharged on August 6, 1946. He was extremely patriotic and proud of his service to his country.

He was united in marriage to Geraldine G. Peterson on September 21, 1948 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Aberdeen, South Dakota. To this union, two daughters were born: Donna Lea and Julie Ka.

Dick went to work for the Rural Electric Association in Ipswich and then began work with Interstate Power Company in Decorah, Iowa as a lineman on March 3, 1956. He was later promoted to electrical crew foreman. Dick retired on October 10, 1989 after 33 years of service.

He was an active member of the Congregational United Church of Christ in Decorah. Dick served as a deacon, trustee, a member of the Pastor/Parish committee and was financial secretary for the congregation. He was also a member of Helof-Holm V.F.W. Post No. 1977 and Bernatz-Symonds American Legion Post No. 163 in Decorah and a former member of the Decorah Jaycees and the Ipswich United Church of Christ. Dick enjoyed pheasant hunting, playing cards and dancing.

Survivors include his wife, Gerry Bosanko of Decorah; two daughters, Donna (Jim) Sailor-Dalton of Marion, IA, and Julie (Gary) Mohr of Coralville, IA; four grandchildren, Peter (Mary Lyn) Sailor of Ames, IA, Matt (Robin) Sailor of Arlee, Montana, Stephanie and Whitney Mohr of Coralville, IA; three great grandchildren, Alyssa, Brennan and Corinne Sailor of Ames, IA. and many nieces and nephews.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Glen C. Bosanko, Norman N. Bosanko, Maurice L. Bosanko and Robert A. Bosanko; and one son-in-law, Craig W. Sailor on November 15, 1994.
