Richard “Dick” Wiltgen, age 84, of Calmar, Iowa died on Friday, July 15, 2005 at the Ossian Senior Hospice in Ossian, Iowa following a short illness.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, July 19, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Calmar, Iowa with Rev. Donald Hawes officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Friends may call on Monday from 3:00-8:00 p.m. at the Schluter – Balik Funeral Home, French Chapel in Calmar and after 10:00 a.m. at the church on Tuesday morning. There will be a rosary at 4:00 p.m. and a scripture service at 7:00 p.m. Monday the funeral home.

Richard “Dick” John Edward Wiltgen was born on May 20, 1921 the son of William and Mary A. (Uhlenhake) Wiltgen on the family farm near Ossian, Iowa. Dick attended Lee Country School and DeSales Parochial School in Ossian. He married Viola Wagner on September 15, 1942 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Fort Atkinson, IA by Rev. W. A. Dostal. Richard and Viola farmed near Calmar until 1962. In 1945, Dick started Wiltgen Construction and then sold the business to his son, Garry in 1987. This year marks the 60th year in business for Wiltgen Construction. He also owned the Dee-Vee Mobile Home Court from 1971 to 1986. Dick was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Calmar Sr. Citizen’s, the Sunrise and the Good Neighbors Club. Dick enjoyed playing cards, square dancing and waltzing; going for rides in his ’64 Chevy Impala Convertible, singing and playing the harmonica and he especially enjoyed his grandchildren.

Richard’s survivors include his daughter: Janet Uhlenhake & husband Jerome, Calmar, IA. Three sons: Garry Wiltgen & wife Dianne and Gerald “Augi” Wiltgen, both of Calmar, IA and Gene Wiltgen & wife Terri, Onalaska, WI. Seven grandchildren: Chad Wiltgen, Chris Wiltgen & wife Nicole and Casey Wiltgen; Jason and Josh Uhlenhake; Travis and Brittany Wiltgen. Two brothers: Walter Wiltgen & wife Betty, Harmony, MN and Donald Wiltgen, Fountain, CO. Two sisters-in-law: Rita Wiltgen and Evelyn Wiltgen, both of Ossian, IA.

Richard was preceded in death by his father, William in 1926; his mother, Mary in 1962; his wife, Viola on Aug. 1, 2001; one grandson: Justin Uhlenhake on May 24, 1988; three brothers: Raymond Francis, and Ralph Wiltgen; two sisters: Mildred (Art) Einck and Dolores (Ben) Balvin; and one sister-in-law: Darlene Wiltgen.
