Marinus Mihm, age 88, of West Union, Iowa, formerly of St. Lucas, Iowa, died on Sunday, June 21, 2009, at the Stony Brook Assisted Living Home in West Union, Iowa.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Wednesday, June 24, 2009, at St. Luke's Catholic Church in St. Lucas, Iowa, with Rev. Marvin Salz presiding. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Friends may call from 3:00-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday and until 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday at the Historic St. Luke's Chapel in St. Lucas, Iowa.

There will be a scripture service at 7:00 p.m., followed by a rosary at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday evening.

Marinus Nicholas Mihm was born on December 10, 1920, the son of William and Anna (Croatt) Mihm in St. Lucas, Iowa. Marinus attended St. Luke’s Catholic School in St. Lucas, Iowa. Marinus started farming and farmed his entire life; until he was eighty years old. He trucked cattle, along with buying and selling of cattle for many years. Marinus married Margaret Mitchell on June 17, 1943, at St. Luke’s Catholic Church in St. Lucas and to this union, six children were born: Gary, Bill, Debbie, Tammy, Jacque and Jolene. Marinus enjoyed the Green Bay Packers, Milwaukee Bucks and Brewers, going to stock car races, gambling and shows in Vegas, family vacations, sporting events, and gardening and above all he loved his family and all family events. Marinus was a member of St. Luke’s Catholic Church, Catholic Order of Foresters, St. Lucas City Council and the South Winn. Golf Club.

Marinus’ survivors include his two sons: Gary (Janice) Mihm, West Union, IA and Bill (fiancé, Sandy Hageman) Mihm, St. Lucas, IA. Three daughters: Deb (Stephen) Pesek, New Hampton, IA; Tammy (Al) Thornton, Decorah, IA and Jolene (Bill) Galligan, Waverly, IA. One son-in-law: Jim Cayton, Kalona, IA. Fifteen grandchildren: Cary Jo (Robin) Mihm, Scott Mihm, Wendy Mihm (Alvin) Herold, Jeremy (Michelle) Pesek, Jamey (Tara) Pesek, Joshua (fiancé, Katie Hill) Pesek, Adam, Lucas, and Taisha Thornton, Paul, Ashley and Nicole Galligan, Erin, Courtney and Emily Cayton. Eight great grandchildren: Brogan, Hannah & Riley Mihm, Mitchell & Jacob Herold, Hunter & Hailey Pesek, and Kyler Pesek. Two step-great grandchildren: Hailey & Taylor Mork. Two sisters: Alfreda (Clet) Koshatka, Protivin, IA and Alice Kacher, Fort Atkinson, IA. One brother: Donald (Charlotte) Mihm, St. Lucas, IA. Three sisters-in-law: Bonnie Mitchell, Charles City, IA; Marion Thomas, West Des Moines, IA and Delores (Don) Blong, St. Lucas, IA. One brother-in-law: Donald (Mary Ann) Mitchell, Louisville, KY.

Marinus was preceded in death by his parents: William and Anna Mihm. His wife: Margaret Mihm on October 7, 2000. One daughter: Jacque Cayton on January 27, 2007. One sister: Bernadine (Al) Dietzenbach. Four brothers-in-law: Melvin Kacher, Bernard Mitchell, Alfred Mitchell and Paul Thomas.
