Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 30, 2005 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Fort Atkinson, Iowa with Rev. John Moser officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Friends may call on Wednesday from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at the Schluter – Balik Funeral Home, Chekal Chapel in Fort Atkinson, Iowa. There will be a rosary at 4:30 p.m. and a scripture service at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday evening.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Turkey Valley Dollars for Scholars.
Leo Martin was born on June 23, 1922 the son of John and Agnes (Winter) Martin on the family farm near Fort Atkinson, Iowa. Leo attended St. John’s Catholic School in Fort Atkinson and helped farm the family farm. He was born and died on the same farm and lived there his entire life. Leo loved gardening, visiting friends and spending time with his nieces and nephews. He enjoyed animals and was always willing to take in any dog or cat that needed a home. Leo was a lifelong member of the St. John’s Catholic Church and sang in the church choir for over seventy years.
Leo’s survivors include his two sisters: Dolores Boeke, Hubbard, IA and Leona Sloan, Iowa City, IA. One brother: Ray C. Martin, Guttenberg, IA. Fourteen nieces and nephews and several great nieces and nephews.
Leo was preceded in death by his parents, one sister: Lucille Wiggins; one sister-in-law: Linda Martin and two brothers-in-law: Jack Boeke and Ross Sloan.
