Eunice M. Larson, age 85, of Decorah, Iowa, died on Sunday, December 13, 2009, at the Green Lea Manor in Mabel, MN.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, December 18, 2009, at the Canoe Ridge Lutheran Church, rural Decorah, Iowa, with Rev. Douglas Mathison presiding. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Friends may call after 10:00 a.m. at the church on Friday morning. The Schluter – Balik Funeral Home in Decorah is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be given in memory of Eunice to the Canoe Ridge Lutheran Church, 1316 Canoe Ridge Road, Decorah, IA 52101.

Eunice Mae Larson was born on December 29, 1923, the daughter of Theodore Charles and Florence (Lines) Seeley in New Haven, CT. She was baptized in April 1924, at St. James Episcopal Church in New Haven, CT. She was confirmed at the First Congregational Church in Stratford, CT in 1936. Eunice graduated from Stratford High School in 1941. After high school, she worked at an airplane factory. She met her future husband, while he was stationed in the area. Eunice married Osmund John Larson on February 9, 1946, in the First Congregational Church in Stratford. After the service, Eunice came to Iowa, with her husband and farmed near the Canoe Ridge Lutheran Church. She had a great love of sheep; raising a large herd on the farm. She lived on the farm after her husband died, later moving into Decorah and then to her Goose Island apartment in 2000. In later years, she spent her winters between Phoenix, Arizona and Orlando, Florida. In 2006, she moved to the Green Lea Manor in Mabel, Minnesota. Eunice enjoyed her family, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She liked to crochet, knit, play cards and was an avid walker. Eunice was a member of the Canoe Ridge Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday School, WELCA and the Veda Circle.

Eunice’s survivors include her three daughters: Laura (Bernard) Dreesman, Cedar Falls, IA; Diane (Steven) Guberud, Spring Grove, MN; and Debbie (David) Catron, Orlando, FL. Five grandchildren: Travis & Elise Catron, Tina (Duane) Kitchen, Jennifer (Kenneth) Roeder and Samantha (Daniel) Neuzil. Five great granddaughters: Amanda & Michaela Neuzil, Emily, Haleigh & Katelyn Roeder. Two step-grandchildren: Allison (Tim) Gunderson and Adam (Lois) Guberud. Four step-great grandchildren: Lexi & Brady Gunderson, and Mikal & Emily Guberud. One sister: Mrs. Theodora O’Neill, Phoenix, AZ. One brother: George Seeley, Rochester, MN.

Eunice was preceded in death by her parents: Theodore Charles and Florence (Lines) Seeley. Her husband: Osmund John Larson on October 19, 1959. One son-in-law: Joe Egge in 1997.
