Beatrice Iverson, age 93, of Decorah, Iowa, died on Tuesday, July 14, 2009, at the Aase Haugen Nursing Home in Decorah, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Friday, July 17, 2009, at the Big Canoe Lutheran Church, rural Decorah, Iowa, with Rev. David Andreae presiding. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Friends may call from 3:00-7:00 p.m. on Thursday at the Schluter – Balik Funeral Home, 604 South Avenue, Decorah, Iowa, and also after 10:00 a.m. at the church on Friday morning.

The family suggests memorials to be given in memory of Beatrice to the Aase Haugen Nursing Home, 4 Ohio Street, Decorah, IA 52101 or to the Big Canoe Lutheran Church, 1381 Big Canoe Road, Decorah, IA 52101.

Beatrice Sylvia (Ellingson) Iverson was born on September 25, 1915, the daughter of John Harry and Lesa (Vinje) Ellingson on the family farm in Pleasant Township, rural Decorah, Iowa. Beatrice attended country school in Pleasant Township and worked in area homes, cleaning and taking care of children. Beatrice married Irvin Iverson on September 15, 1937, at the Big Canoe Lutheran Church. Together they farmed in the Big Canoe and Sattre areas before moving into Decorah in 1957. Bea worked at Luther College for twelve years and then at DECO for twenty-two years, retiring in 1982. Bea enjoyed crocheting, doing embroidery, playing cards, and word searches. She was a wonderful cook and baker, making delicious meals for her family. Bea was a member of the Big Canoe Lutheran Church and volunteered at the Aase Haugen Nursing Home for seventeen years.

Beatrice’s survivors include her three daughters: Sharon Anderson, Decorah, IA; Karen Frye, Marion, IA and Arlene (Don) Roney, Ft. Collins, CO. One daughter-in-law: Alice Iverson, Decorah, IA. One sister: Norma Lynch, Fond du Lac, WI. One brother: Vernon (Sandy) Ellingson, Des Moines, IA. Two sisters-in-law: Anna Iverson, Decorah, IA and Audrey Hanson, AZ. Thirteen grandchildren: Diane Lass, Judy (Pete) Ylvisaker, Greg (Kathy) Iverson, Bruce (Beth) Iverson, John (Pam) Anderson, Lee (Marilyn) Anderson, Troy (Leah) Anderson, Weston (Kay) Frye, Lisa (Jeff) Visek, Julie (Jim) Whitson, Sylvie (Troy) Dennis, Donna (Phil) Freed, Theresa Stephenson. Twenty-seven great grandchildren: Jamie, Jared & Kevin Lass; Thomas & Kari Ylvisaker; Isabelle & Galen Iverson; Max & Jane Iverson; Jessica, Brandon, Dalton & Jaden Anderson; Annika & Betsy Anderson; Tye Anderson; Clayton & Colton Visek; Tyler, Ashlee & Justin Dennis; Brittney, Brailey & Brandon Freed; Johnathan, Drew & Derek Stephenson.

Beatrice was preceded in death by her parents: John Harry and Lesa (Vinje) Ellingson. Her husband: Irvin Iverson in 1966. One daughter: Alice Jean Iverson on February 7, 1942.One son: Donald Iverson on February 28, 1989. Two sons-in-law: Arden Anderson on March 1, 2005 and David Frye on July 27, 2006. One brother: Lester Ellingson, killed in World War II. One sister: Hazel (Walter) Bigler. Four brothers-in-law: Donald Lynch, Walter (Dorothy) Iverson, Virgil Iverson, and Leonard Iverson. Five sisters-in-law: Violet Paulson, Marie Grauros, Evelyn Ellingson, Ruth (Leonard) Severson and Thelma (Milford) Sheldahl.
