Rosella M. Foltz, age 79, of Hesper, Iowa died on Sunday, March 26, 2006 at the Aase Haugen Nursing Home in Decorah, Iowa, following a lingering illness. Funeral Services will be on Wednesday, March 29, 2006, at 1:30 p.m., at the Aase Haugen Home in Decorah, Iowa, by Rev. Richard Simon Hanson. Burial will be in Hesper Cemetery in Hesper, Iowa.

Friends may call on Tuesday from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Schluter Balik Funeral Home in Decorah and after 12:30 at the Nursing Home on Wednesday afternoon.

Rosella Mabel “Rosie” (Smith) Foltz was born on May 19, 1926 the daughter of Charles Emil and Gladys May (Ellenbaum) Smith at the Ramsey Hospital in St. Paul, Minnesota. Rosie graduated from high school in St. Paul, MN and worked at a Defense Plant in St. Paul, during the WWII. She married Keith Foltz on October 15, 1948 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Together they farmed in Hesper Township until 1980, when they moved to Burr Oak. Rosie worked at the Sunflower Day Care Center. Two years ago, her health forced her to enter the nursing home. Rosie enjoyed playing bingo, gambling at the boat, playing cards and fishing.

Rosie’s survivors include her husband Keith Foltz, Burr Oak, IA. Three daughters: Darlene Foltz, Decorah, Diane (Harlan) Palmer, Decorah and Della (Kevin) Whalen, Canton, MN. One son: Robert Foltz, Decorah, IA. Five grandchildren: Melissa, Michelle and David Palmer; Richard Hollenbeck and Rusty Whalen. One great granddaughter: Keneddy Manheart. One sister: Betty Hunnel, Downey, CA and several nieces and nephews.

Rosie was preceded in death by her parents: Charles and Gladys Smith; one sister: June Smith; two brothers: Gerald and Charles Smith.
