LaVonne Brown, age 75, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, formerly of Decorah, Iowa died on Sunday, August 14, 2005 at the Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids, IA following a long illness.

Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, August 17, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at the Washington Prairie Lutheran Cemetery, Decorah, IA with Rev. Bryan Robertson officiating from the Decorah Lutheran Church. Burial will be in the Washington Prairie Lutheran Cemetery, Decorah, IA.

Friends may call from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the Schluter – Balik Funeral Home in Decorah, Iowa. There will be a 6:30 p.m. prayer service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Organ Fund at the Decorah Lutheran Church or the Washington Prairie Cemetery Fund.

LaVonne Geraldine (Rosendahl) Brown was born on March 23, 1930 the daughter of Elmer and Hildegarde (Tieskoetter) Rosendahl in Decorah, Iowa. Her mother died when she was five, and then she went to live with her Uncle and Aunt, Oscar and Carrie Rosendahl. LaVonne attended Decorah schools and worked for a short time at the Montrose Hotel in Cedar Rapids. She married Clarence Brown on November 28, 1952 at the Glenwood Lutheran Church. They lived in the Ossian area she worked at the Sugar Bowl and Vanberia Gifts, retiring in 1976. LaVonne moved to Cedar Rapids in 1993 and enjoyed traveling and camping with her friend, Gordon. LaVonne enjoyed spending and visiting with her family and friends.

LaVonne’s survivors include her long-time friend, Gordon Mullin, Cedar Rapids, IA. One daughter: Kris (Tom) Holthaus, Postville, IA; Three sons: Steve (Jan) Ham, Osage, IA, Steve (Karla) Brown, Waterloo, IA and Larry (Roxann) Brown, Denver, IA. Seven grandchildren: Josh (Melissa) Holthaus, Matthew Holthaus, Knut (Molly) Brown, Andrew Brown, Jeremy (Jennifer) Ham, Jamie (Sarah) Ham and Holley (Matt) Counsell. Three great grandchildren: Abigail Holthaus, Rhett and Garrett Ham. One sister: Lynnette (Paul) Ellefson, Mesa, AZ and one brother: Robert (Leona) Rosendahl, Decorah, IA.

LaVonne was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Clarence in 1976 and one brother: Curtis Rosendahl.
