Arnold Meyer, age 84, of Calmar, Iowa, died on Wednesday, January 13, 2010, at his home.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, January 16, 2009, at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Calmar, Iowa, with Rev. Donald Hawes presiding. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Friends may call from 3:00-8:00 p.m. on Friday at the Schluter – Balik Funeral Home, French Chapel, in Calmar, Iowa, and after 9:00 a.m. at the church on Saturday morning. There will be a rosary at 4:00 p.m. on Friday afternoon.

Arnold Peter Meyer was born at home in Ossian, IA June 12, 1925 to Cecelia (Bodensteiner) and Adam Meyer. He moved to the farm northeast of Calmar when he was 12 years old. There, he farmed the home place through December 1983. He married Jeanne (Frana) Meyer on June 21, 1944 and to this union 12 children were born.

Arnold was a fine steward of the land and was recognized for his efforts in receiving a Master Soil Conversationalist award. He was an avid golfer and member of the South Winn Country Club and loved the many tournaments that he and Jeanne golfed together as well as his foursome with Paul Hackman, Petey Lensing and Clinton Leuenberger. He loved dancing with Jeanne, watching Polka Joe on TV and playing many games of pinochle with family and friends.

Arnold is survived by his wife of 65 years, Jeanne, children Doug (Darlene) Meyer (Calmar), Carole (Dick) Peterson, Weatherford, TX, Bonnie (Sonny) Kalishek, New Hampton, IA, Glenda (Don) Vrba, Protivin, IA Tracy (Don) Loeffler, Plano, TX, Drew (Deb) Meyer, Mason City, IA, Jacyn (Vitaly) Meyer-Vaisburg, Westminster, CO, Brian (Mary) Meyer, Calmar, IA, Carson (Marie) Meyer, Groveport, OH, Dena Johnston, McKinney, TX, Zoe and Fiancé (Joe) Meyer, Dallas, TX, Kelley (Robert) Claman, Calmar, IA. Thirty eight Grandchildren: Sandy (Dave) Henning, Jessica (Jason) Kolbe, Kirsten (Dave) Rauch, Erik (Lisa) Peterson, Signe (Erik) Fourmy, Aaron (Missy) Lukes, Stacey (Gino) Nelson, Crew Kalishek, Tyler Kalishek, Kala Kalishek, Deon Sawyer, Travis (Jen) Sawyer, Adam Leoffler, Nathan (Ash) Leoffler, Brandy–Diop, Yvonne Meyer, Wade Meyer, Adam Meyer, Leonid Vaisburg, Daniel Vaisburg, Jacob Meyer, Jordan Meyer, Seth Meyer, Joshua Meyer, Matthew Meyer, Nathaniel Meyer, Benjamin Meyer, Jamison, Brandy Selberg, Jennifer Sturgill, Meagan Meyer, Jarod Meyer, Courtney Meyer, Alyssa Johnston, Shelby Claman, Taylor Claman, Sabrina Claman, and Brittney Claman. Fifteen Great Grandchildren: Danielle Henning, Emily Henning, McKenzie Kolbe, Stephanie Rauch, Desiree Flynn, Reese Peterson, Chloe Peterson, Austin Lukes, Alex Lukes, RaJa Nelson, Najee Nelson, Bella Sawyer-Ewing, Carson Sawyer, Quinn Sawyer, and Briana Leoffler. and many nieces and nephews.

Arnold was preceded in death by his parents, Cecelia and Adam Meyer, in-laws, Louis Sr. and Rose (Korbel) Frana, brothers Ray (Joey), Alois (Lit), sisters, Evelyn (Eddie) Bullerman and Irene (Eddie) Einck. Brother in-laws Louis Frana Jr., Herman Kuennen and sister in-law, Loretta (Norb) Ean. Granddaughters Bridget and Angel Meyer, nephews, Dean (Bear) Einck, Jerry Bullerman, Bruce Ean, Alan Meyer and Joel Meyer.

Arnold leaves a legacy of his unwavering love for his wife of 65 years, his family and his love of the family farm. We will miss his booming laugh and love of life.
