LaVon Bucheit, age 87, of Calmar, IA, died Thursday, December 8, 2011 at the Aase Haugen Home in Decorah, IA.

Memorial Services will be held at 1:30 p.m., on Tuesday, December 13, 2011 at the Aase Haugen Nursing Home in Decorah, IA, with Rev. Donald Hawes presiding.

Friends may call after 12:30 p.m., at the Nursing Home on Tuesday afternoon. The Schluter – Balik Funeral Home in Decorah is in charge of arrangements.

Mary LaVon Kaveny was born on January 16, 1924, the daughter of John and Mame (Healy) Kaveny in Waukon, Iowa. LaVon graduated from Clermont High School. She worked at Bucheit Produce and this where she met her future husband, Adrian Bucheit. They were married on May 28, 1946, at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Calmar. Together they ran the Top Hat Tavern for ten years in Calmar. In 1961, they moved to San Jose, California. In 1989, they moved back to Calmar. LaVon enjoyed crocheting, doing puzzles, reading and visiting with people. She was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church and the Halverson – Giesen American Legion Ladies Auxiliary in Calmar.

LaVon is survived by her daughter: Ramona (Andy) Houdek, Fort Atkinson, IA. Son: Philip (Jennifer) Bucheit, Stockton, CA. Daughter-in-law: Candy Hilgaman Bucheit, Tracy, CA. Eight grandchildren: Philip, Eric, Amy and Lily Bucheit, Matthias (Jessica) Houdek, Amanda, Megan and Sarah Fitzsimmons. One great grandchild: Adrian Barela. Brothers and sisters in-law: Gerald Bucheit, Ossian, IA; Claude and Gretchen Bucheit, Decorah, IA; and Joan Schissel, Ossian, IA.

LaVon was preceded in death by her husband: Adrian Bucheit on Feb. 1, 2005. Her parents: John and Mame (Healy) Kaveny. Two brothers: Robert Kaveny and Maurice Kaveny. Brothers and sisters-in-law: Joyce Bucheit, Quintin (Marcelite) Bucheit, Mary Bucheit and Donald Schissel.
