Charlotte E. Erickson, 106, of Decorah, died Sunday, March 6, 2011 at Aase Haugen Home in Decorah. A Memorial Service is being planned for Saturday, May 14, at 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Decorah. Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah is serving the family. Charlotte Evelyn (Noecker) Erickson was born Sept. 7, 1904 in Hesper, the daughter of Hugo and Grace (Allen) Noecker. Charlotte was the second child of five. She graduated from Mabel High School, Mabel, Minn., and attended Upper Iowa University, where she received her teaching certificate. Charlotte taught school before marriage, first in Hesper Township and then at East Side School in Decorah. She married Silas V. Erickson of Burr Oak Oct. 2, 1926.
Charlotte was a full time mother and wife. Her interests were poetry, sewing, gardening, playing bridge and cribbage. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Decorah. The family moved several times; the last move was back to Decorah in 1965 after Si retired. They built a home on Pine Ridge Circle where Charlotte lived until she moved to the Eastern Star complex. She was well cared for by so many at Eastern Star, Aase Haugen and Hospice. Charlotte always had good neighbors and made lasting friendships.
Charlotte is survived by her five children: Jean Carter, Decorah; Jerrine Osenga, Decorah; John Thomas (Jeri) Erickson, Verona, Wis.; Karen (Daryl) Stack, Port Clinton, Ohio; and Kristin Erickson, Decorah,; one sister, Genevieve Harvey, rural Hesper; 14 grandchildren: Lynn Barnes, East Lansing, Mich.; William E. (Suzanne) Carter 111, Nashville, Tenn.; Thorn (Mari) Osenga, Kiel, Wis.; Allan (Robin) Erickson, Glendale, Wis.; Susan (Karl) Koehler, Hayden, Colo.; Janet Erickson, Theresa, Wis.; Nancy (Gerard) Balzer, Waukesha, Wis.; Raymond (Petra) Anderson, Clarksville, Tenn.; Kari (Jeff) Massay, Atlanta, Ga.; Roger (Jill) Anderson, Fort Myers, Fla.; Robert (Nichola) Wright, Elkins Park, Pa.; Andrew Adams, Peoria, Ariz.; Jennifer (Albert) Cleveland, Wayzata, Minn.; and John Adams, Minneapolis, Minn.; 30 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Nov. 28, 1988; her parents; her sister Ruth at the age of 12; two brothers, Norbert and Milo; two sons-in-law: William E. Carter Jr. and Donald W. Osenga; a daughter-in-law, Marian Odbert Erickson; and three grandsons: Andrew Carter, Mitchell Carter and Richard Anderson.
