Contributor: Connie Ellis (Not related)Funeral services for Lawrence Joseph Lansing, age 80, of Waukon, Iowa, formerly of Ossian, Iowa, will be held on Thursday, March 15 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Ossian, Iowa with Monsignor Cletus Hawes as the celebrant. Private family inurnment will be held at a later date in the St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church Cemetery in Ossian, Iowa.
Lawrence Joseph Lansing, son of Walter and Fredoline (Remke) Lansing, was born December 5, 1931 in Winneshiek County, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Ossian and was educated at the St. Francis de Sales Catholic School. Lawrence was united in marriage with Arlene Brincks on June 29, 1955 at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church. They became the parents of seven children. Lawrence farmed in the Ossian area for many years. After retiring from farming, he worked construction and was a semi-truck driver. He was a lifelong member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Ossian. Lawrence enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Some of his other interests were reading, watching Western movies and programs on TV and playing with his favorite house dogs.
Lawrence Joseph Lansing died Sunday, March 11, 2012 at Northgate Manor in Waukon, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister Betty Welter, and three brothers-in-law, John Welter, Al Didesch, and Arthur McCabe.
Lawrence is survived by his wife, Arlene of Waukon, Iowa; his children, Gail Butterworth of Ottawa, Illinois, Carolyn (Dennis) Rausch of Fort Atkinson, Iowa, Norma (Larry) Skretta of Decorah, Iowa, Dean (Gail) Lansing of Waukon, Iowa, Brian (Janelle Burckart) Lansing of Waukon, Iowa, Darla (Greg) Schnuelle of Ossian, Iowa, and Donna (Roger) Kolsrud of Waukon, Iowa; twenty grandchildren, and nineteen great-grandchildren; and seven sisters, Patty McCabe of Cresco, Iowa, Gladys Didesch of Dubuque, Iowa, Rosalind (Melvin) Henneberry of Barnard, Iowa, Inez (Charles) Nutt of Montgomery, Minnesota, Gerri (Mike) Maloy of Dubuque, Iowa, Esther (Terry) Cobry of Mt. Prospect, Illinois, and Viola (Robert) Pankow of Dubuque, Iowa.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 14, 2012, from 4 - 7 pm at the Schmitz Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Ossian, Iowa, and one hour before services at the funeral home on Thursday. There will be a 5 pm Scripture Service at the funeral home on Wednesday.
Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, March 15, 2012, at 1:00 pm at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Ossian, Iowa. Monsignor Cletus Hawes will be the celebrant.
Private Family Inurnment will be held at the St. Francis de Sales Cemetery, Ossian, at a later date.
