Frank Hughes, 85, Last of Pioneer Family, Is Dead

Funeral services will be conducted Friday afternoon at Brandt's Mortuary for Frank M. Hughes, 85, native Decorahian and son of one of Decorah's earliest families, Colonel, and Mrs. D. H. Hughes, He was born In Decorah August 30, 1859.

The rites will be conducted by the Rev. Alfred H. Bartter of the Decorah Congregational church and burial will be in Phelps cemetery. The Decorah Lodge of Elks of which he was a charter member will attend the services in a body. For many years Mr. Hughes was Elk's secretary.

He was city clerk for 29 years, from June 10, 1901, to April 1, 1917, and from August 25, 1920, to April 1, 1933. Great Falls, Montana, was his home nine years while he was shipping clerk for Bates Corey Co.

He attended the Decorah schools and the Decorah Institute.

Alice became his bride Nov. 20, 1918. She preceded him in death Sept. 12, 1940. His only surviving close relative is his nephew, Harry Hughes of Minneapolis.

His death occurred at 7:15 Wednesday morning at his home at 312 West Broadway. .He had been in failing health the past six months.
