Born December 31, 1905 Died February 14, 1956
Funeral rites for Ruben Gulrud, 50, of Highland Township, who died of burns at his farm home Tuesday evening, Feb. 14, were held Saturday, Feb. 18, at 2 p.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church. The Rev. Glenn A. Vanderbilt officiated at the service. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers were Verl Borshiem, Darwin Severson, John Norgaard, Gilman Tollefsrud, Howard Bergeson and Oscar Sorenson.

Members of the floral committee were Mrs. Darwin Severson, Mrs. Verl Borshiem and Mrs. Walter Sorenson.

The Steine Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Gulrud was born December 31, 1905, in Allamakee County, the son of John & Mary Gulrud. Both parents preceded him in death. He attended rural schools in Allamakee County.

He first settled in Allamakee County and later moved to Madison, Wis. He moved to Highland Township 11 years ago.

Doris Barth and Ruben Gulrud were married March 10, 1929, in Madison. They had one son, Gene, who is living in Decorah.

Besides his wife and son, Gulrud is survived by one grandchild and three brothers and two sisters. They are Norbert, Milwaukee, Wis.; Herbert, Adams, Wis.; Carl, Madison, Wis.; Mrs. Sidney (Martina) Kolsrud, of Waukon. Gulrud’s mother-in-law Mrs. Clara Barth of Decorah is also a survivor.

He was a member of St. John’s Church.
