Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 21 for Melvin W. Brown of Rockford, Iowa, who died Monday, June 19, at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City following a short illness.

Services were held at Zion Lutheran Church at Rockford at 2 p.m. with Rev Stephan Engelstad officiating.

Music was by Mrs. John de Buhr, organist, and Mrs. Donald Parcher, soloist.

Pallbearers were Richard Messier, Donald Jones, Eugene Pfretzel, Darrell Bass, Harry Batty, and Earl Nicewarner.

Mr. Brown had spent all his lfe in Rockford except for serviing his country overseas during World War II.

He was engaged in farming and a turkey operator for 20 years. In September he began working as a serviceman in Nashua.

Mr. Brown was born May 27, 1917 at Rockford, the son of Arthur and Eve Shafter Brown. He was married June 11, 1939 to Arla Borseth, Decorah.

Survivors include his wife, two sons, Larry, Omaha, and Scott at home; one sister, Mrs. John (Viola Gruver), Rock Rapids, Iowa; his stepgather, Royal Wilson, and his daughter-in-law, Mrs. Larry Brown.

His parents and one brother preceded him in death.

He was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church of Rockford and served on the church council four years. He was also adjutant in the American Legion Post of Rockford.

Memorial services were held at the graveside by the Amreican Legion Post.
