William George Schrandt, age 81 of Fredericksburg, died Wednesday July 12, 2006, at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa.
Funeral services are 1:30 p.m. Friday, July 14, 2006, at St. John Lutheran Church in Sumner with Pastor William Runaas Jr. officiating. Marjorie Knoploh will be the organist accompanying Faye Elliott as vocalist singing, "Amazing Grace" and "How Great Thou Art".
Interment will be in Locust Cemetery, rural Decorah with Dylan Kopriva, Tyler Kopriva, Kyle Berg, Adam Barth, Cody Schrandt, Josh Schrandt, John McKernan and Sullivan Schrandt as casketbearers. Honorary casketbearers will be Mevin Molokken, Ron Brown, Earl Knoke, Raymond Harrison, Brad Steege and Rollie Grotegut. Military interment rites will be given by the Fredericksburg, AMVETS.
Friends may call 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Thursday at Hugeback & Chenoweth Funeral Home in Fredericksburg. Visitation continues an hour prior to the funeral at the church on Friday. Online condolences for William may be left at www.hugebackfuneralhome.com

William was born July 1, 1925, in Festina, IA, the son of Theodore and Magdeline (Gesing) Schrandt. He received his education at the Our Lady of Seven Dolors School in Festina. As a young man he worked on the family farm until enlisting in the US Army on January 21, 1946. He served as a Private First Class and was honorably discharged on July 20, 1947. Following his military service he was married and became the father of eight children. The couple later divorced. On February 7, 1976, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, he married Norma J. Barth. The couple both worked in Fredericksburg and Bill retired from AMPI in 1987. For many years, the couple were involved in the miniature horse business. Bill enjoyed wood-working and making gifts for each of his grandchildren. He also enjoyed baseball, camping, time with his family and grandchildren. Bill and Norma spent the last 15 winters in Arizona.
Survivors include his wife, Norma; five sons, Michael (Rita) Schrandt of Freeport, IA, Tim Schrandt of Spillville, IA, William Schrandt Jr. of Bluffton, IA, Daniel Schrandt of Cresco, IA and Peter (Sandra) Schrandt of Gleason, WI; three daughters, Martha (Clint) of Decorah, IA, Becky (Dave) Miles of Riceville, IA, Pam (Rick) Kopriva-Barnes of Waukee, IA; two step-sons, David (Cathey) Barth of Marion, IA, Dan (Tammy) Barth of Cedar Falls, IA; one step-daughter, Janeen (Chuck) Hedke of Trenton, NE. 20 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Ole (Lorraine) Schrandt of Festina, IA, and Ted (Edna) Schrandt of Decorah, IA; four sisters, Winifred Hartman of Fredericksburg, IA, Della Walz of Sequim, WA, Anne Wegner of Kelseyville, CA and Eunice Krause of Dallas, OR; one sister-in-law; Florence Schrandt of Ossian, IA.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Ashley Schrandt; three brothers, Walter, Herb and Tom Schrandt; one sister, Wilma Schlee.
