Telford was born on April 24, 1917 in Decorah, the son of Will and Louise (Spilde) Seegmiller. He was baptized and confirmed here at St. John's Lutheran. He was a graduate of Decorah High School.

On February 15, 1945, he and Evelyn J. Thornton were married in Des Moines. They had one daughter, Mary.

Telford was a long distance trucker, specializing in crushed road rock and agricultural lime. He also helped his brother Horace on the home farm.

Telford, passed away early Friday morning, March 27, 1990, at the Howard County Hospital in Cresco, Iowa, He was 73 years old.

Telford was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Jess.

He is survived by his wife, Evelyn; his daughter, Mary Sears of LeRoy, Minnesota; two grandsons, Todd and Terry; two brothers, Floyd and Horace, both of rural Decorah; and one sister, Evelyn Sampson, of Decorah,
