Ruffridge, Gertrude A. (Young) -- 1901 - 1988

Gertrude A, Ruffridge was born September 15, 1901 in Hesper Township, the daughter of George and Minnie(Gutzka) Young. She was a life-long member of St. John's Lutheran Church at Locust where she was baptized, confirmed and married. She received her education in the rural schools of Winneshiek County.

After her marriage to Jerome R. Ruffridge in St. John's Lutheran Church here in Locust the family farmed in Pleasant Township just south of Locust, In 1971 she moved to Decorah where she has lived since then.

Mrs. Ruffridge was active in Ladies Aid and church circles. She helped organize the first Sunday School in the church on April 1, 1945, She was the first superintendent and taught for many years. She also served on the altar committee. She faithfully volunteered at the Aase Haugen Home for many years.

She passed from this life on Sunday, November 13.

She leaves to mourn her passing her children, Erlene R, Fisher and Duane J. Ruffridge both of Decorah her daughter-in-law Alice Ruffridge of Decorah 4 grandchildren, David Fisher of Rochester, Minnesota, Carlene White of Greeley, Colorado, David Ruffridge and Julia Ruffridge of Decorah, and 2 sisters, Violet Bolson and Elsie Smalley both of Decorah.

She was preceded in death fry her parents, one brother, George Young, Jr. and her husband Jerome on June 12, 1965.
