Isabell was born February 10, 1898 in Hesper Township to Peter and Julie Severtson Usgaard. She was baptised at Hesper Lutheran Church and confirmed July 27, 1913 by Pastor I. S. Aastad, She was educated in the country schools of Canoe Township.
On March 22, 1916 Isabell was united in marriage to Ole A. Anderson at her parents' home. They had three children--a daughter and two sons. Before moving to Decorah in 1962, Ole and Bell lived in Hesper, Canoe, and Pleasant Townships„
To the end of bar life Bell took great interest in her grandchildren to whom she was affectionately known as Grandma Bell, And until she entered the Aase Haugen Home at the age of 89, Bell was an active member of St. John's Lutheran where her good humor and good coffee were greatly appreciated. She passed away at the Aase Haugen Home early on Christmas Eve day, December 24, 1989. She was 91.
Bell is survived by her three children—Lucille Wendling; of Highland Township, Palmer of Decorah, and Richard of Pleasant Township; seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; and four sisters--Vivian Grant of Peoria, Illinois, Ruby Usgaard of Minneapolis, Pauline Lange of North Hollywood, California, and Idella Birdsell of Mesa, Arizona.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Ole (January 30, 1973), three sisters--Selma Opsahl, Anna Haslip, and Luella Larson; and four brothers—Peter, Salmer, Raymond, and Julian.
