Joanne Elaine (Folstad) Subra, 55, of Byron died early Wednesday morning, June 17, 2009, at Saint Marys Hospital in Rochester. She was born Nov. 6, 1953, in Spring Grove to Elmer and Oranda (Brown) Folstad. She grew up on the farm and graduated from the Mabel-Canton High School in 1971. On June 28, 1980, she married James Subra in Mabel. She had worked for the Mayo Clinic as a medical transcriptionist since 1972. She enjoyed music, church, and reading. She was a member of the Bethel Lutheran Church in Rochester. Her charismatic attitude and strong faith were recognized by everyone who met her.

Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Kara (Phil) Roberts of Rochester and Katie Subra of Minneapolis; one grandson, Nathan Roberts; her mother, Oranda (Darrell) Sinclair of Spring Grove; one sister, Susan (Earl) Schultz of Pine Island; and three brothers, Neil (Betsy) Folstad and Gary, both of Mabel, and Michael (Karen) Folstad of Spring Grove. She was preceded in death by her father and one brother, Alan Folstad.
Funeral services were June 20 at the Scheie Lutheran Church in rural Mabel with the Revs. Mary Waudby and Norman Wahl co-officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
The Mengis Funeral Home in Mabel assisted the family with arrangements.
