Amy Marie Hageman

Amy Marie Hageman, 40 of Ossian, Iowa, passed away Sunday, August 7, 2011, at her home after a yearlong courageous battle with cancer.

Amy was born on September 5, 1970, in Decorah, Iowa, the daughter of Herb and Mary Ellen (Breitsprecher) Hageman. She attended grade school at St. Francis de Sales Catholic School and graduated from South Winneshiek High School in 1989.

Amy recently worked at Seed Savers Exchange in Decorah. She enjoyed the outdoors-taking walks, gardening and especially working with flowers. Amy enjoyed spending time with friends, traveling and liked to go to new places.

Amy truly enjoyed spending time with her niece Madison and nephew Tye. Kids adored Amy, and she adored them. Amy was a very caring, loving person that always put other's first and was a very family oriented person.

Survivors include her parents, Herb and Mary Ellen Hageman, Ossian; sister, Leah (Troy) Anderson, Decorah; brother, Chris Hageman, Ossian; niece, Madison and nephew, Tye; Uncles and Aunts, Ron & Cathy Hageman, Calmar, Delbert & Mary Ann Hageman, Ossian, Paul & Gertie Kuennen, Lawler, Roger & Joyce Hageman, Ossian, David & Pam Breitsprecher, Ossian, Jo Ann Ott, Ossian, Marilyn Breitsprecher, Ossian, and many cousins.

Amy was preceded in death by her grandparents, Ray and Florence Hageman and Lyle and Mildred Breitsprecher; her uncles and aunt, Bob and Wanda Wettleson, Lee Breitsprecher, Gary Breitsprecher and Darrell Ott; her cousins, Gary Hageman, Joy Breitsprecher and Darin Hageman.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 10, 2011, from 4-8 p.m. at the Schmitz Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Ossian, Iowa, with a Scripture Service at 4:30 pm.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, August 11, 2011, at 11 a.m. at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, Ossian, Iowa. The Rev. Monsignor Cletus Hawes will be the celebrant.

Burial will follow in St. Francis de Sales Catholic Cemetery, Ossian, Iowa.

Schmitz Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Ossian, Iowa, is in charge of arrangements.
