Diane Hageman
Diane Hageman, age 71, of Ft. Atkinson died Tuesday, June 21, 2011 at the Winneshiek Medical Center in Decorah after a short illness. A Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. John’s Catholic Church in Fort Atkinson Friday, June 24, with Rev. Marvin Salz officiating. Interment was at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery, Fort Atkinson.
Diane Elizabeth Hageman was born July 4, 1939, the daughter of Raymond and Betsy (Phillips) Hanson, in Decorah. Diane graduated from Calmar High School in 1957. She married Leo Hageman July 9, 1960 at St. Luke’s Catholic Church in St. Lucas, and to this union eight children were born. Leo and Diane lived near Calmar and then built a home in Fort Atkinson in 1967.
Diane worked at the Root Beer Stand, The Red Vest, and the Grocery Store, all in Calmar. She then attended NICC in Interior Design, graduating in 1985, and then worked at NICC as a custodian. Diane also took care of elderly people in recent years.
Diane always put her family first and loved and cared deeply for them and her home. She loved to go dancing in earlier years, sew, bake, and play cards. Diane was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church and the Guild and the Ladies VFW Auxiliary.
Diane is survived by her eight children, Steve (Faye) Hageman of Burr Oak, David (Heather) Hageman of Ft. Atkinson, Christine (Marty) Fischer of Ossian, Connie (Todd) Bushman of Calmar, Jeffrey (Denise) Hageman of Monona, Donald (Tracy) Hageman of Ossian, Sandra (Dan) Bechtel of Waukon, and Jason (Amber) Hageman of Ossian; 26 grandchildren, William “Bill” (Carissa) Kocian, Jr., David Kocian, Tony Kocian, Nicole Kocian, Melissa (Russ) Love, Bryan Hageman, Ashley Bucheit, Austin Hageman, Amanda (friend, Matthew) Fischer, Mark (friend, Tesha) Fischer, Ashley Bushman, Megan Bushman, Kylie Adams, Dylan Adams, Amber Hageman, Chelsy Hageman, Vanessa Hageman, Cody Hageman, Matthew Hageman, Michael Hageman, Angela Hageman, Hailey Bechtel, Dekota Bechtel, Brady Hageman, Dallas Hageman and Autumn Hageman; four great-grandchildren, Tony Kocian, Jr., Michael Kime, Brennan Love and Brynnlee Love; one sister, Dorothy (Chuck) Ollendieck of Cresco; one sister-in-law, Rita (Joe) Menne of Viroqua, WI; and one brother-in-law, Roman (Sharon) Hageman of Decorah.
Diane was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Betsy (Phillips) Hanson; her husband, Leo, May 11, 1983; her father- and mother-in-law, John and Elizabeth Hageman; one brother, Donald (Jan) Hanson, in 1973; two sisters-in-law, Agnes (Rinard) Bottema and Ida Mae Hageman in infancy; and one brother-in-law, Theodore Hageman.
Honorary casketbearers were all of Diane’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Casketbearers were Bryan Hageman, Matthew Hageman, Melissa Love, William “Bill” Kocian, Jr., Mark Fischer, Amanda Fischer, Dylan Adams and Ashley Bushman.
