Funeral services for Robert John Kala of Spillville, Iowa were held Tuesday, July 2, 1991 at 11:00 a.m. at the Calmar Lutheran Church with burial in the church cemetery. Rev. Karen Bockelman officiated. Pallbearers were Scott R. Thompson, Einer L. Thompson, Raymond P. Koshatka, Roger Benda, Gene Anderson, and Steven Pavlovec. French Funeral Home was in charge of services.

Robert John Kala was born March 6, 1940 at Decorah, Iowa to Joseph and Katherine (Blaess) Kala. He graduated from Calmar High School in 1958. He served in the United States Navy and was a member of Z.C.B.J. Lodge #85. Robert worked as a barber in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and also at Collins Radio in Cedar Rapids. He died Sunday, June 30, 1991 at East Lane Manor, Jewell, Iowa.

Preceding him in death were his father, Joseph Kala who died February 24, 1964 and his step-father James Koshatka, who died December 12, 1989.

Surviving him are his mother Katherine Koshatka of Spillville, Iowa and 3 sisters, JoAnn Anderson of Lawler, Iowa, Margaret Thompson of Calmar, Iowa and Virginia Pavlovec of Monona, Iowa.
