Clara B. Anderson, age 90, of Decorah, Iowa died Thursday, January 1, 1987 at the Winneshiek County Memorial Hospital in Decorah. Services were held Monday, January 5 at 11 a.m. at the Decorah Lutheran Church with the Revs. Alden H. Hovda and John V. Halvorson officiating. burial was in Pontoppidan Cemetery with Fjelstul Funeral Home of Decorah in charge of arrangements. Casket bearers were Richard Wilmot, Jim Anderson, Keith Bidne, Kevin Bidne, Wayne Hageman, David Hageman, Steve Vander Sanden, Ricky Anderson, and Alan Davidson.

Clara was born February 12, 1896 in Winneshiek County, Iowa to Lars and Olina (Underdahl) Skaim. She attended rural schools in Winneshiek County. She was baptized and confirmed at the Pontoppidan Church. On February 2, 1916 she married Andrew G. Anderson in Waukon, Iowa. He died April 27, 1974. She had lived in Winneshiek County all her life. Since November 1984 she has been a resident of the Aase Haugen Home in Decorah. She was a member of the Decorah Lutheran Church.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Andrew; two grandchildren; 3 sisters, Anna Anderson, Louise Sutton, and a sister in infancy; and 2 brothers, Joseph Skaim, and a brother in infancy.

Surviving are 13 children: Arnold Anderson of Festina, Iowa, Clarence Anderson, Rueben Anderson, Orval Anderson, Louise Vander Sanden, and Pearl Davidson, all of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, Lorraine Hewitt of Madison, Wisconsin, Leonard Anderson of Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, Gladys Hageman of Cresco, Iowa, Arlene Hogenson of Ossian, Iowa, Florence Wilmot of Clarksville, Iowa and Ellen Bidne and Verna Hanson, both of Decorah, Iowa; 33 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Oscar Skaim and Melvin Skaim, both of Decorah, Iowa, and 3 sisters, Minnie Gulrud of Madison, Wisconsin, Emma Tollefson of Decorah, and Lillian Carlsborg of Waukon, Iowa.

NOTE: Based on the obituaries of Minnie Gulrud and Emma Tollefson, it appears that Clara's mother, Olina (Underdahl) Skaim was married two times. Her first marriage was to Lars Skaim and the children of this marriage were Minnie, Joseph, Anna (Mrs. Ben Anderson), Louise, and Clara. Probably Lars Skaim died?

Olina then married a Ben Skaim and their children were Lillian, Emma, Oscar, the brother who died in infancy and the sister who died in infancy. Perhaps Ben was a brother to Lars?
